Fellow pcos-we here and been ttc for a little over a year.

@MrsRedPumps:  opening, thx for starting the thread and best wishes to you in your journey. To answer your question re pregnitude, I personally had no side effects, I just took it along with my prenatal and other supplements.

@Mewithoutyou:  congrats to you! Can I ask how long it took with the met to lose the weight and become regular?

@MrsRedPumps:  when I was 18 a dr told me that I had the largest cyst on my vary that he had ever seen and that it would be incredibly hard for me to get pregnant. I’ve now gotten pregnant 3 times, on accident! Don’t be too discourage.

1. How long were you TTC before your BFP?(how many cycles)

The first time it took me one year (2 months w/ clomid and provera) to get pregnant with my now 13 month old son. I’m now 6 months pregnant with our second son and I got pregnant our first cycle of ttc. My doctor was amazing and prescribed clomid right away!

2 Any medication? What kind?

Clomid and provera

3. Any surgeries required?

No

4. Charting and temping too?

With my first son I charted and it helped a lot! This time around I couldn’t though since our 8 month old was waking up a lot during the night and didn’t wake up at the same time every day.

5. Were you referred to a RE?

No

1. How long were you TTC before your BFP?(how many cycles)

Uhh…I forget now but I think a year and a half or thereabouts? Almost two years maybe? I couldn’t tell you how many cycles because my cycles got weird and long and kinda stopped.

2 Any medication? What kind?

Clomid but it left my uterine lining too thin to support a pregnancy. I was very grateful the doctor didn’t insist we keep trying Clomid for four cycles or whatever the normal number was, we moved ahead with IUI’s. They also put me on a synthroid which I hated and discontinued as soon as possible because it made me binge eat like crazy.

3. Any surgeries required?

No, though I had to have that uncomfortable fallopian-tube-checking test where they put fluid in to see if the tubes are blocked.

4. Charting and temping too?

Nope.

5. Were you referred to a RE?

No.

I went on metformin only after our daughter was born, and 15 months later conceived our second daughter without further fertility intervention. (I had decided I was not ever going on birth control again, since if we could possibly conceive a child naturally I desperately wanted that; I hated the fertility treatment just as much as I was grateful for it.)

I probably should have tried metformin before the more extreme interventions, but in retrospect I’m glad I didn’t, because I was stressed and worried and panicky about TTC, and it was really best for us to do the more extreme thing to get the job done. Especially since it took about a year of the metformin (and a significant weight loss) for me to conceive the second time. As it was, with the fertility treatments I fell into a deep depression and put on a lot of weight which I am still dealing with now. If we hadn’t conceived when we did, I think I would have just kept piling the pounds on. A scary thought for me.

Crossing my fingers for you OP!

@MrsRedPumps:  Haha. I hear you on the Monday start thing. I’m so the same way! Not sure of the impact of pregnitude on my cycle. I took it during a clomid cycle and the cycle ended up being short in length about 30ish days (I regularly get somewhere around 50 before I give up and start provera) but I didn’t ovulate that cycle. So I think it must have done something but not totally what I hoped for.

i don’t have PCOS, but was reading a previous poster’s suggestion of acupuncture….DEFINITELY reccommend. There are several ladies at my work who have PCOS, tried and failed to get pregnant…went to acupuncture and all got pregnant right away. it seriously is spooky how well it works!

I was officially diagnosed with PCOS when I was 26.  I always knew something was up as I never had a period on my own without some sort of medical intervention

1. How long were you TTC before your BFP?(how many cycles)
I only did 6 medicated cycles since I pretty much had no period on my own

2 Any medication? What kind?
Provera to induce a period.  2 femara cycles, 1 clomid cycle.
Then we switched to injectable Menopur and HCG trigger for 3 cycles.  The third injectable cycle coupled with IUI is what got us our BFP.

3. Any surgeries required?
Not for me (DH also had IF issues and had 2 surgeries)

4. Charting and temping too?
No.  I was told it would be pointless for me since my PCOS would make it all over the place

5. Were you referred to a RE?
Yes.  He was totally amazing and completely worth it.

@MrsRedPumps: I did have upset stomach when I started on the Metformin but I always made sure to eat before I took it and I was fine after taking it. I was never prescribed Clomid since it is a fertility drug and I ended up conceiving naturally. I do know of a co-wroker that also had PCOS and took it and she became pregnant the next month. Please keep us updated with your TCC!!! Good luck!

beautifullyboheamian:  Good luck!  Just stay positive, get on those herbs and stick with the acupuncture and hopefully you will be good to go!  My dd is now 21 months and I am starting to think about #2!  Hoping the next one comes as easily as the first! 🙂
