I know most of you say that once your LO started solids you went through the “peanut butter” phase, but has anyone experienced this before solids?
DS’s BM’s have recently changed in consistency and I was just wondering if this was normal or if anyone else experienced these very thick, sticky stools in an EBF before the introduction of solids?

I’m curious to know as well. I just emailed his doctor today asking the same question. My son is three months and has just started going less often, but the consistency has also changed. He also started day care and I had a minor freak out that maybe he got forumla by mistake.

Okay, I googled, and I think it’s toatally normal.

Most parents get way too hung up on BM’s. Think about it. Are your own BM’s identical every day?
If your baby is happy, healthy and gaining weight, the color and consistency of their BM’s is not a concern unless there is blood in the stools.n
If they have diarrhea, then you want to ensure they remain hydrated.
Here’s information on diarrhea: http://www.healthlinkbc.ca/kb/content/symptom/diar3.html

@knittybynature: DS used to have multiple BM’s a day and then all off a sudden they dropped off…He went a week with nothing and now has had these pb like ones once a day the last two days. I was prepared for his BM’s to drop off and for them to get thick like this when he started solids, but wasn’t really expecting it now.
@julies1949: Thanks for the links. Normally I wouldn’t worry too much about color/consistancy changes because you are right, BM’s usually are not identical day to day, but my son does struggle with blood in his stools due to food allergies. I believe we just got the blood under control after 2+ months of working everything out of our systems. When the consistancy changed yesterday I naturally freaked. Thanks again.
