@Statutory Grape: Being pear shaped myself and starting the process of finding a dress, I’d be interested to hear what others chose.

I’m 5’8″ 34C, 28/29 waist and 42 hips. I also have VERY narrow shoulders so I’m trying to figure out how to balance the shoulders & hips.

It’s nice to hear that trumpet/mermaid gowns are flattering on a pear shape because I really like a lot of those dresses.

@Statutory Grape: Now I’m getting excited to try on! My mom will be here in October and we will start dress shopping. I’ve never felt comfortable in strapless dresses (but SO many gowns I see are strapless).  I like the “off the shoulder” or “tip of the shoulder” straps. Hopefully there are options I like in that. I will be sure to report back after I try some on!

I chose an A-line gown.

@Statutory Grape: Haha I hear you! I’m about the same… top is a 6/ *maybe* 8 due to my chest, then hips are a 12/14. I’m sure there will have to be many alterations done to make it fit right!

I’m pear shaped too! And my dress wasn’t quite an a-line, but it kind of was.

@Statutory Grape: That is very pretty, Although I wonder if I’d feel like my “straps were falling down” all night.

I think I just have a lot of trying on to do.

I am pear-shaped and bought a modified A-line.  My dress is Maggie Sottero’s Jenna.  Here is an old thread that I posted when I found her πŸ™‚ Scroll down for a few more close-ups.

I absolutely think you should flaunt your curves if you got ’em, so that’s what I will do!

@KatNYC2011:  You can always add a strap onto a strapless dress, so if you like the cap sleeves for example, you could add them on if you thought it would suit your dress better and make you more comfortable!  (Thanks – I love Jenna!)

High five for another Iowa bride! πŸ™‚

I’m a pear-shaped shorty as well (5’3″, curvy size 2-4).  I went with a mermaid dress w/ some volume on the bottom.  I agree – I wasn’t expecting the style to be as flattering as it was when I put it on.  I’m hoping I still feel the same way when my size comes in! I’m sure your dress is really flattering as well, A-line is always a good bet!
