I would love to receive pearls as a Bridesmaid or Best Man gift!  However, I would probably be kind of disappointed if they were fake and/or really cheap looking and that was the only gift.

Real pearls are timeless. Fake pearls I would probably skip and do something else instead.

I’m going to be wearing pearls myself, I’d love it if I could find real pearls to make the necklaces myself.

If price were not an issue? Akoya or South Sea. 😉 I think Tahitian are always black, and unless you want black pearls you’ll have to look for a different type. I’m pretty sure mother of pearl is actually a shell (could be wrong). Almost all pearls you can find will be cultured; I don’t think you can realistically buy any that are not.

Really, though, unless you’re just loaded with money, you’ll pretty much have to go with freshwater (which is still nice). There is a lot of variety in quality; I’d go for the nicest ones I could afford. They’ll still be a hell of a lot cheaper than Akoya pearls.

My Fiance just bought my Akoya pearls for my birthday. LOVE them….but she’s right they are expensive.

I’d suggest freshwater, too. I may be doing the same for my bridesmaids as I’d like them to wear pearls for the wedding.

I am planning to go this route too.  Try these websites to find reasonably priced, but high quality pearl sets:

    http://www.thepearloutlet.com

    http://www.pearlparadise.com

They are the the higest rated internet pearl sales places. Pearl Paradise has a showroom in Los Angeles and sells to the stars.  I plan on purchasing sets of pearls for my bridesmaids from one of these two places.  They are owned by brothers, so even though they are different websites, they are connected.

Timeless, but really only worth it if they’re real and pretty good quality. Which, more than likely, you’d have to crack the piggy for!

Love pearls.  We found some very inexpensive real strandsfrom a local jeweler.  They were very slightly mismatched, but you can hardly tell.

Totally classic!! How could pearls ever be tacky? I think this is an awesome idea & if I were a Bridesmaid or Best Man I’d be over the moon! 🙂

I got mine from Costco… it’s appraised value is double what I paid.
