This is the lamest thing to be worried about, but it’s starting to make me feel like I’m a little mad..
Future Mother-In-Law and her sisters are hobby-caterers and have offered to cater our wedding for about 1/3 the cost of any of our quotes – YAY! We only planned a very simple buffet cold-meat-and-salads meal as it is a small, outdoor wedding in the hottest part of summer. We picked a four salads, three cold meats, buttered potatoes and condiments. Easy.
Then Future Mother-In-Law says “Oh and peas. You’ve got to have peas”
FH and I hate peas. Peas and salad? That just sounds weird to me. I said no to the green gremlins and I got fobbed off. “Oh no, there has to be peas. People will expect peas…”
Do we really need peas? Should we add something else?
I’d love to hear your suggestions or recollections of pea-based family arguments..!

What kind of peas? I HATE GREEN PEAS…English peas.
I’m cool with blackeyed peas and crowder peas, though. But I have never heard of anyone ‘expecting’ anything at a wedding but cake.

I like peas raw. Not cooked or frozen.

I like peas, but they’re by no means necessary. Don’t like them, don’t serve them.

I would find peas to be a rather odd side dish….

@Westwood: This! They just dont fit the menu. I could understand carrots. I could understand fresh peas for snacking.
@JFay: So true!
“I’m going to a wedding this weekend – I sure am expecting some good PEAS after the ceremony”said NO ONE EVER

Peas in a pod I’m ok with. I’m actually allergic to gross, mushy peas – they make my throat scratch!

I love little green peas! Fresh out of the pods!

I like peas (plain or with butter or in soup) but I wouldn’t be sad/confused/angry if I didn’t have them. Peas are best when they’re bright and green. Unfortunately, many people tend to overcook them and they become grey which is very unappetizing.

Haha! I love peas and my Fiance hates them. I really don’t think “people will expect them” though?!?

@Westwood: For real. I’d be like, “Peas? Gross.”

Peas are terrible and they ROLL EVERYWHERE WHEN YOU DO TRY TO EAT THEM WHY DO YOU NEED PEAS????

I’d be much more likely to notice the presence of grey-green mush-balls than to notice their absence.

lol What, you don’t have to have peas. No one will be like “omg those peas made the whole wedding!”. A lot of people hate peas. I like them, but I’m not some pea-crazed pea hoarder. Peas n cream is the best.
You don’t have to have peas.

@Scheherazade: *pea rolls of plate* “excuse me sir, I believe you just pea-d on the table”
@PixelMePretty: I LOL’d!
Future Mother-In-Law is a really good friend too, so I might just have to say that to her if she mentions it again. “Are you some kind of pea-crazed pea hoarder? I said no to the peas!”
