acw2016 :  if you’re having morning sickness that severe call your doctor and see if they can give you something. My friend is a teacher and she had to be on prescription anti-nausea drugs for most of her pregnancy.

acw2016 :  So my sister has a one year old and she taught first grade starting when she was about 6 weeks (she concieved in July and school started end of August) until she was about 7 months (when she wasn’t allowed to stand up/move around enough to teach enough)

She did let the office know that she would have to duck in and grab someone to watch her class while she used the bathroom or threw up. I believe she would just call the office if she needed somebody and they’d often send the teacher next door (who had an aide so she could briefly leave the class)

Maybe try a set up like that?

Congrats on your upcoming little one!

acw2016 :  don’t worry about that until it happens because it might not! The first time I threw up while pregnant was while I was in labor. Cut back on the fluids and give the manager a heads up that you have a medical condition that requires frequent bathroom breaks – most people won’t pry any further than that.

If you’re comfortable, I would just tell the office manager at the start of the day. Don’t make a big deal and they’ll be able to arrange something to help you out. I only taught middle school and high school where teachers were able to run out of the room quickly if they had to.

I feel you! Im also subbing right now and 4 weeks pregnant .. I already have morning sickness but its not as bad as last time YET. I have started peeing more though. I make sure to use the bathroom before the before, on every break… I also pack my bag with water and lots of crackers and pretzels and snack during the day to deal with the sickness. If need be, I have asked a neighbouring teacher to watch my class. Its hard at the beginning because obviously Im not showing or telling people im pregnant so they probably just think im annoying but oh well. When you start to show you can tell people youre expecting and people are more understanding! Oh last time, I would get a large Orange juice with ice and leave it on my desk and somehow it helped with the sickness! good luck!

I taught elementary school for my entire pregnancy and it never was a problem.  But I didn’t have morning sickness and I was able to wait to pee until transition times.  In my school, if a teacher had a bathroom emergency during class, that person would ask a teacher next door to stand in the hallway and monitor both classes until he or she returned.  Or that person would ask to borrow a teacher assistant or aide from a neighboring classroom for a moment, if there was one.  That is probably your best bet.
