Hello!
It’s my first post here! Boyfriend surprised me with a “I’m not telling you where we are going” and then it was to look at rings!
We are getting an heirloom diamond from his grandmother, which passed it to his mom. It’s about 1 carat.
We were both attracted to a simple, plain, thin platinum band with 4 prongs and peekaboo diamonds on the side. Kind of like this:

Do any of you have rings with peekaboo diamonds, and if so, do you really see them much? Do you forget they are there? Was it worth it?
I want to see yours! Show me pics!

I love Scott Kay settings. His settings always do the surprise stone very tastefully. We were looking at a setting with surprise stones but we opted for a custom setting with a side halo. But if you are looking into Scott Kay settings, you won’t be disappointed with your surprise stones and definitely won’t regret them. Good luck on your search!

PrincessPeach13 : Thank you!
This is actually a private jeweler with some family history. This was just the closest picture I could find online. They would have to make it for me because my fingers are size 4.5 But it looks very close!

PrincessPeach13 : Thank you! I always thought I wanted something flashier, but we were both just drawn to the simple, clean lines of this.

amyamelia : I know. It’s weird how your taste changes over time. I always wanted a split shank but then when I started looking at rings seriously, I realized that a split shank would just be too bulky and shorten my already very short hands. I ended up with a 2mm single shank half eternity band that I swoon over all the time!

amyamelia : I love my surprise stones, from the top my ring looks like a plain solitaire but the side detail is a fun little surprise. I love looking at at! Mine are super tiny.

I always wanted a little profile bling but it wasn’t in the budget when I was resetting my oval stone, now I’m going full custom for a marquise and I’m getting that bling! It will be so nice to see when you least expect it…do it!

My ring is a size 4.5 as well and I think just about anywhere you go, they’ll have to actually make the ring for you. Most of the sizes in the store are too big to be properly sized down to a 4.5.
I’ve always been a fan of Scott Kay. This was my ring from a prior engagement. It was a .5ct princess cut in a Scott Kay setting and I loved showing people the “surprise” diamonds. For me it was totally worth it and I definitely never forgot they were there – you see them all the time. Think about all the stuff you do with your hands – they’re usually never sticking straight out in front of you where all you see are the tops of your fingers. 😛

I wanted a little “something extra” in my new ring, too, without going over-the-top. If you’re not set on a single peek-a-boo on each side, you might consider some smaller accent stones on the basket or going up the prongs. Check out ArtCarved or A.Jaffe for some good examples.
This is my current ring with accent diamonds all the way around the basket. I wish I could have taken a clearer picture for you but it’s too dark right now for anything but artificial lighting and cell phones aren’t the best at macro shots.

This is my ring which is similar. I love the little peekaboo diamonds. My wedding band covered one of them so I got a thin band to go in between which is lower than the diamonds so I can see them again when I look down. The profile is probably the favourite part about my ring.

I just love my Peek a boo diamonds. They’re also along the front. 360 degrees of bling lol Sometimes I forget they are there & its always a nice suprise when I am reminded. It’s still practically new to me so everything is aweing but in general it is TOTALLY worth it. I wouldnt change a thing.

My basket is pretty much entirely conposed of peekaboo diamonds. lol I love them! I’m a size 3.75, but ring is sized to 4 for swelling and adding a band later, so the ring flops to the side a lot. It’s nice to have something to look at from the sides and underneath!

I’ve got peekaboo rubies on my ring and I see them all the time. Other people don’t usually notice them until I point them out, but I’m always looking ‘down’ my arm at my ring from the side instead of from the top. For example, when typing, when just resting my hand on a surface, if I look down while my hands are relaxed, etc.
For me it was definitely worth it. I feel like it makes my ring more mine. Plus, it makes me smile when they flash at me while I’m working.

My husband was dead set on a simple solitaire but I like a little more bling, so I thought a peekaboo was the perfect compromise. However, the ones we tried on were too tall for me and we actually wound up with a Hearts on Fire one with hidden leaf details on the prongs that we both love.
