If you are talking about transvaginal I have had to have it once. It was uncomfortable but not really brutal. My least favorite part of the whole thing was having to drink all the water, because I was afraid I was gonna pee during it. That was the worst of it.  You’ll be okay, good luck. ๐Ÿ™‚

I had one just last week for a similar reason! Usually they’ll do a low abdominal US first, then let you visit the ladies, and then proceed with the internal exam. The probe itself was fine – one of my ovaries sits almost behind my uterus, so trying to get a good view of that required some interesting position of the probe by the technician, which was uncomfortable.. But over quite quickly. It’s worth it to know what’s happening!

I had 3 done last year due to ovarian cysts and there is a little pressure pain, not any worse than cramps.  You should be fine, good luck!

I did a transvaginal ultrasound and it was really weird, but not the worst thing ever.

The worst part for me has always been the external ultrasound, pushing on your full bladder is torture. The transvaginal isn’t bad, better than a Pap test I think.

i’ve had a few of them. they’re not so bad. it feels a little weird and uncomfortable, but it doesn’t hurt or anything. i agree with the previous poster that a pap smear is worse. during one of my ultrasounds, the tech had me insert the wand to a certain point and then he took over the rest of the way. maybe you could try that if it would make you feel more comfortable. good luck!

Im normally a wuss with things like that but I had one and it was totally fine, no pain or pressure. It was only very thin and slid in easily. I Actually preferred it to a abdominal one with a full bladder. So don’t worry

I had two TV ultrasounds done when I was pregnant, not bad at all! As mentioned, the normal ultrasounds are the worst. Having to hold a full bladder while they press on you is a whole new kind of torture.

I second the PP’s.  I have had several of the internal ones and they are really not so bad.  The first one I had was a little uncomfortable as it was an older model and very thick (you should have seen my face when the guy held it up!) but the rest I’ve had with more modern equipment which is quite thin.  They put a condom on the end for hygeine, and then slowly place it in.

It shouldn’t be painful.  If it is, tell them straight away!  Not only will they try and make you more comfortable or adjust it, it may assist with diagnosis if a certain point is hurting.

LittleKBee:  I’ve had two, first was absolutely fine, second was hell as my ovaries, fallopian tubes and womb were all stuck together.

If you find regular internal exams/smears and sex fine, you will be fine ๐Ÿ™‚ The scanner is pretty slim and they cover it with a condom and lubricant so it goes in easily. You may feel some very mild discomfort as they move it around to get a good look, but nothing more. If it hurts at any time, let them know, as this is also important with helping make a diagnosis, plus they will reassure you and try to be more gentle.

I’ve had it done a few times. It’s really not bad. I didn’t experience any pain, just a weird pressure when the wand was moved around. Good luck!

LittleKBee:  I had one because I had a pregnancy that wasn’t developing normally. It wasn’t bad at all. It wasn’t super comfortable, but it didn’t hurt or anything.

My husband was in the room when it happened, and admitted to feeling a little “inadequate” after seeing that I could handle the internal part of the sonogram process, lol. I reassured him that girl bits are meant to be able to accomodate all sizes, including a baby’s head that is much larger, lol.
