I know that peony season stars in May but sort of ends near August, depending on when your wedding is, it could work, but I am not sure. I would call up and ask for a professional opinion if you are going to a florist, or DIY place. If you can’t get the peonies, have a plan b just in case. Garden roses are really, really beautiful and are similar to an open peony, so you can definitely use that as a replacement.

I think you are going to either pay a lot (and peonies are $$$ to begin with) or have a hard time sourcing them. They have a super short season and I think by August, they’re near impossible to find. That’s not to say it’s impossible, but your florist may only be able to get a couple. For example, I wanted anemones and those are all gone by the end of July but my florist managed to source about 4-5 of them for my bouquet only last-minute.

Like PP said, check out garden roses. There are also cabbage roses, ranunculus, and english roses. Our florist used garden roses as our peony stand-in.

P.S. If you still need a great florist (that’s reasonable), let me know. Ours is based out of OC but she is willing to travel to LA. We had so many compliments on our florals and a bunch of our guests were hoping I would toss my bouquet because she did an amazing job.

check with a florist.  i think the availability varies from year to year.  i remember going to a wedding in july and the bride carried peonies.  i got married in early may of last year and i know several brides said it was a terrible year for peonies but my florist didn’t have any trouble getting them for me.  then i came back home and my friend had beautiful ones growing in her yard.  i think i remember a bride said she cut peonies ahead of time and kept them in the fridge so that she could have them for her wedding.

just be prepared to pay more for them so late in the season.  cabbage and garden roses makes a good sub for peonies.

Not sure on flower seasons etc.. But have you thought about looking on etsy for some super real looking peony bouquets? Some of them look so real that I would never know they weren’t unless I touched them.

I know this isn’t an option for everybody, but it’s certainly a thought.
