These guys that you mentioned who are thinking of proposing are going to get a heck of a shock when they see how much a quality diamond ring costs.    It’s a beautiful ring,  it does not look cheap one little bit.   I’m sure they don’t appreciate the cost of the specs etc.

Your ring is beautiful! Out of curiousity, would you mind sharing the specs? If you know them.

is the ring from Cartier or another high end jeweller? They tack on quite a bit to their jewellery as well as use higher quality materials.

I’m thinking you can chalk it up to people who don’t know anything about jewellery.

Personally, I would be tempted to respond with “oh, your budget is over $20,000? Lucky girl!”

mod214:  They probably think that because (as someone else already said) it’s a cushion and cushions are notorious for looking smaller than say a round brilliant of the same carat weight. But what anyone else thinks doesn’t matter, it’s your ring and you should wear it proudly regardless that it’s small or if it was bigger. Rock your ring!!

Ignore them.  I had an asscher engagement ring and someone once asked me if I got it from Overstock because she had seen a similar one there.   People are rude and don’t seem to have a filter when it comes to rings.

mod214:  Yeah – maybe.  I lived in NYC for a decade and recently moved….even doctors I worked with weren’t sporting 20K rings.   Who knows.

OMG! people are insane. First of all 1.5 is considered BIG! second of all they honestly don’t understand. When Fi and I first started talking about marriage and dicussing rings I told him he probably had no idea about the cost of diamonds and asked him what he thought a 1ct. diamond would cost and he said, “Idk $1000” hahahaha He pretty much died when I told him the jeweler down the street has a 1ct right now for 5k. Your friends are in for a biggggg shock when they start shopping. Unless theyre going the alternative route with a moissanite or something

I thnk they probably have limited knowledge of rings and cost.  And also, maybe they are just jerks.  Some people have a hard time beng happy for others, and make crappy back handed compliments.  Just ignore them and love your ring.  🙂

mod214:  I honestly think people who have never shopped for a ring have NO CLUE how much they really are. My friend’s (now) Darling Husband reached out to me to go ring shopping with him, since I was the one who knew what she liked. In the car on the way there, we had a really frank discussion about rings, sizes, prices. I was really honest with him about the size/cost of my ring. He was actually pretty shocked, and had no idea it would cost him that much to get something comparable.

I wouldn’t take it personal.  People probably don’t realize how much rings are!

I for sure was shocked.  I filled out the paperwork to insure my ring and my jaw dropped when I saw it was 13K.  It’s slightly under 1.3 carats, but the stone is to DIE for.  Yours looks very high quality!!! Don’t forget it 🙂

The problem is people think bigger = always more expensive. They don’t know about diamonds, materials or craftsmanship. I was once in a pawn shop where a woman had a fit because a 1ct princess in a plain setting was $5000 while a 3 ct solitaire (which had so many inclsions in it you could barely see the cut) was only $3200. She said she would call the BBB and demandEd they give her the smaller ring for $1000. She ended up being escorted out by security. haha!

Your ring is gorgeous!! Ignore them. Or you could remind them that a ring just like yours STARTS at nearly $28,000 at Tiffany’s.

MrsA44:  This sounds exactly like the conversation my best friend and her boyfriend had a few weeks ago.  He wanted to look at rings so they stopped at a jewelry store and his jaw dropped when he saw the prices.  I think he too thought he could get a 1ct ring for around a grand.  Needless to say, he is rethinking his budget.

Someone thought my 1 carat 1/2 eternity band was silver. She probably thought it was a silver with cubic zirconia or something. Now my Fiance jokes about it.
