Your fiancé should tell his parents that if they want to plan YOUR wedding , they have to pay for it also. Unfortunately many couples have to sacrifice a lot just to shut their parents up (that’s why we chose to elope) so it’s give-and-take that way. Remember it’s your special day and if someone else can’t be happy for you then there’s no reason for them to be there.

You see us recomend eloping all of the time and these issues are the reason we tell people to elope.  I can understand why his family would be uncomfortable with a smaller wedding because his divorced parents will be stuck dealing with one another with little space and few people to separate them.  However, that is their problem.  Be an adult, plan the wedding you and your FH want, send out the invitations to the people you want to invite, and deal with the fallout.  Otherwise, elope or cave into their demands.
