You can always cut other things in your budget to account for the reception costs. Everyone is different in their planning, some spend more on a dress or flowers or music or food….just all depends on what you view as more important. 🙂

Just calculated it out… mine’s about 15%. Haha, I don’t think that’s normal! We got some great deals on the catering and rental fee, and we’re having a cash bar though… and 50% of our budget is the photographer. So we’re not exactly traditional.

I think that what’s “normal” is subjective. Someone might choose to spend more on food/drink than another couple, and another couple might choose to spend more on photography, or a dress or whatever is important to them. A friend of mine who is a wedding planner freaked when I told him how much we were spending on photography – but we don’t want a DJ, so it evens out.

The majority of my overall costs are going towards the reception – I’d guess about 70-75%.  I’m cutting costs on everything else where possible – trying to be very budget-conscious with the dress, invites, flowers, etc.

    Mine was right at 54%.

My venue was pretty pricey, but all rentals were included by my fabulous caterer.

About 70% exactly. (NOT including the honeymoon, since we aren’t really taking one immediately, and that seems to me one of the easiest things to get rid/cheapen of for a financially-strapped couple!)

Mine came out to roughly 65% but this does not include our wedding rings or honeymoon in the total budget (since its not specifically for the wedding).  Our venue/caterer is probably one of the best in my area and I think it’s well worth it esp for the quality and amount of food we’ll get!

Ours will be around 60-70% too. I’d rather cut costs on the other stuff so we can throw a great party for our guests.

60%.  I chose one of the more baller venues but make concessions elsewhere.

55% (like 60% of our original budget). Food was really important to us so we splurged on the venue.

@kay01:  We budget at least 40% for the reception, which includes the food, drinks and rentals.
