@Dell79:  Ibuprofen if you have it (aspirin if you are over 18). Heating pads (or diy heating pads), warm bath. They say exercise helps but I have never found it to help mine, I find it makes it worse. Stretching, yoga. Foods that are rich in B vitamins, zinc, magnesium, and calcium will help (all help with muscle contraction = cramps) and B vitamins should help you with your energy too. You can use google for a list of foods with these nutrients. ( too many to list)

Good luck! I would really suggest Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Midol. Actually Paprin works best for me for some reason.

🙁 Cramps are the worst! Have you tried a hot water bottle? I get really bad cramps every other month and nothing really helps besides Tylenol and a hot water bottle. Everyone says exercise helps but it’s too painful to do anything but curl up half the time haha!

I agree…heating pads help. I use to fill up a hot water bottle.

ALEVE!  It is the only thing that helps and I used to be bed-ridden with cramps!

ibuprofen, definitely! pineapple is supposed to help too. supposedly there’s an enzyme in it that eases cramps.

exercising does help me once in a while, depending on how bad my cramps are. but if they’re really bad, no way am i leaving my bed.

I would also avoid soda, if you’re drinking any now. I find that whenever I drink any carbonated beverages, my cramps completely intensify (at least, during my heaviest days). For me, ibuprofen and a heating pad seem to help the most. Sorry to hear you are in pain! Hopefully it has gotten better by now.

@booEXcore:  Huh, I never knew about making sure I’m getting enough vitamin B and calcium. I will definitely have to remember this!

@Dell79:  LoL, oh no! I swear, soda and I are mortal enemies during those first few days. It’s killer for me during that time…I like having my soda in the morning to get me going. For me, it’s a combination of the carbonation and the caffeine. I used to think it was the caffeine, but when I would drink non-caffeinated soda, it was still bad. Plus, don’t a lot of pain relievers have caffeine in them? Those work for me.

Way to be efficient and use the laptop! Glad to hear you’re feeling better. Hopefully it was just a weird day and you’ll be fine tomorrow.

@booEXcore:  Not to threadjack, but any foods you would recommend? I am really bad about knowing what is in what…I just know to shop the perimeter at the grocery store if I want to eat healthy.

Ditto on the meds and heating pad.  I also drink tea, I like the warm feeling on the inside along with the heating pad.

For the future, maybe you should figure out what’s causing these cramps. Have you changed your birth control? Any diet or lifestyle changes? I’ve never had a major change in my cramps without one of the afforementioned changes.

In the future, consider keeping a box of Thermacare Heatwraps at your house. I used to get horrible cramps (not as bad now that I’ve been on birth control) and discovered those when I almost had to miss part of my grandmother’s funeral from really bad cramps. Those pads are the one time use ones that stick inside of your underwear. Seriously have saved the day on more than one occasion!
