Please help me, I’m freaking out right now.
I’m going through a massively stressful time right now (family member battling cancer, a recent bereavement, wedding planning, living 400 miles away from my friends and family) and I’ve also been sleeping badly, working a lot (average 47 hours a week for the last month and 12 days without a day off) and I’m dieting (1300-1500 cals a day).
My period is 9 days late. I’m usually pretty regular and I tracked my last period on an app, and I last got it on the 29th of August.
I’ve taken two pregnancy tests (the digital ones), one on Thursday evening, and one just now (Saturday morning) and they have both been negative.
I really cannot handle being pregnant right now… I’m so scared. We use condoms and haven’t had any ‘accidents’ or breakages.
has anyone ever had this happen to them? Could it just be the stress making me so late? Is there any chance the tests are wrong?! Surely they would be showing positive by now?! The box says you can take it up to 4 days before your missed period and it’s 99% accurate so I guess I should trust it… I would go to a doctor but I only moved here a few months ago and I’m not registered 🙁

@Blondey89: I think the tests would be positive by now and stress can absolutely be the reason your period is late.

@Blondey89: Stress can definitely delay ovulation, which would delay your period.

Blame it on the stress!
I’ve had this happen numerous times, especially around final exams. Stress will mess with your hormones…
Just try to meditate and calm yourself. I bet if you can find out how to relax aunt flo will show up pretty soon.

Thank you for your replies!
I really hope my period turns up soon, needless to say this is not helping the stress!

@Blondey89: Stress definitely delays ovulation. I actually just had a cycle where I had a definitely delayed ovulation. I geared up to O on about CD 18 – all the signs were there – but I was moving and ended up Oing about a week later. My cycle went from an average of about 30 days to 36! And no BFP or chemical pregnancy or anything (DH is abroad).

Definitely the stress! I’ve had my period be two WEEKS late because of stress before!

Stress is usually a huge factor for late periods, I’ve had one go up to 42 days in between periods.

I’m willing to bet you had a delayed ovulation due to stress. No need to worry! I say wait another week and test again.

It’s happened to me, it was just stress. Stress really takes a toll on your body. It does some nasty things, like we weren’t already stressed enough! Geez!

Yup – stress can have a huge impact on your ovulation – and when your friend will show up. Try a warm bath, heated blanket, and a relaxing evening or two with funny movies. I know it seems counter productive to try and laugh during a horrible time, but even the resting on the couch and relaxing may help alleviate your worries and she will show up. I have completely missed a monthly period – once when my grandmother passed away. A whole MONTH! So it showed up February 2- February 6. I didn’t see her again until April 12th!

With all the stress going on in your life, it seems like that would be the cause. Try to relax a bit 🙂
