my wedding is on a Saturday and my period is set to arrive the day or so after and be with me on our honeymoon week. Needless to say, this is less than ideal. I plan on just continuing with my bcp right away and starting the next pack immediately to try and skip or at least lessen my period. I’ve never tried this before but has anyone done it successfully? Did your period not come as desired? Or did you still have bleeding?
any feedback is appreciated 🙂

I did that all the time with my pills and never had a problem – no spotting or anything. Just skip the inactive pills and go straight to the next pack. It was really easy for me.

First of all, I would talk to your doctor about options. You’re far enough out this isn’t an emergency. Are you on a monophasic or tri-phasic? I’m on monophasic and I skip placebos for 3 packs and then have a week off the 4th pack. Tri-phasic you can’t skip I don’t think, but I could be wrong. That being said, you can always skip a period now rather than later to avoid having breakthrough bleeding since your body won’t be used to skipping a period at that point.

You can’t skip tri-phasic, but you can skip with monophasic. I can’t have a period because my migranes go insane, so I’ve skipped for years. However, you may still spot the first time you skip, and you may continue to spot if the hormone levels aren’t right. If you’re attached to having a period in general, you can also move up the date by adjusting when you take the placebo set. Otherwise, you might have to try a couple different brands before finding one that works best for skipping. With an August timeframe, I’d say try skipping this one and seeing if you spot. If you don’t, then you’re good to go. If you do, then you can just adjust the timeline.

@CaliHoya: I may have to call my doctor, as I think I may have triphasic pills with different colors and levels of hormones. I guess I’m just afraid to try and mess with my cycle so close to August and have it even more messed up by the time the wedding gets here. I’ll definitely give my doc a call

I also get migraines with my period. My doctor compared my monthly birth control with seasonal ones and said that it was similar enough to take three or four packs in a row and then have my period. It works great for me, but I would suggest to talk to your doctor about it.

I was going to have the same problem during my honeymoon. I skipped the placebo (sugar) pills and went right on to the next pack – no problems at all.

@xxjessmicaxx: thanks! I actually got it sorted out 🙂 went to my doctor and had him switch the pill I’m on. It’s got a shorter “window” and I won’t have it on my honeymoon now. So relieved! And I definitely won’t complain about a much shorter period every month.
