Almost four weeks ago, SO called my dad to ask permission to marry me. My dad said he would “think about it.”
Think about it!? But fine, he waited. A week later, they spoke again. My dad basically told SO he doesn’t make enough money yet so he would keep thinking about it. wtc, who does that!? My dad called me to ask my opinion on it. Asked what I wanted him to tell SO. “yes” Seriously, you need to ask me that? My dad called SO back, grilled him about how much longer he has in college, then asked him to send him a sample budget of how much he think he’ll make with his degree. SO e-mailed him everything as requested. Tonight my dad finally emailed him back.
“Permission granted to marry Goodatlove. I know you will love her and strive to take care of her.”
Ahh, I’m so excited! I think the proposal is coming around Valentines Day (We are ldr and I won’t see him again until then)! This will be my last Christmas season of being unengaged!
Has anyone else’s dad been crazy about (not) giving permission? I can’t believe SO had to wait almost an entire month to get a yes.
(And btw, I’m well aware that we are adults and can decide to get married on our own, but it was important to me to get his permission anyway. There would be way too much drama if I didn’t.)
