I must be weird too because I don’t think you should be doing that at your desk.  I can see quickly reapplying lipstick or running a comb through your hair if you’ve just come in, but anything that takes longer than 5 seconds is a bit much.  If you must do that at work just go to the restroom.

I had a coworker who clipped their nails in their cube during lunch! It bothered me to no end. Brushing teeth in the bathroom at work doesn’t bother me, though.

I seriously just heard my boss clipping his nails at his desk. He does this a lot. I wouldn’t do it and I think it’s a bit odd but I think I’m just getting used to it now lol

Depends on what.  Cliping fingernails is ew, just because they get everywhere, but I have broken a nail at work before and had to either grab a file or a cliper before I stabbed someone with it.

Brushing teeth after lunch, in the bathroom, I get.

Combing hair after being outside is a little compulsive, but okay.   This means more of just a once over, and not combing or brushing for 5 minutes.

Putting on make up, save for at home.  If you can’t get out of bed 15 minutes earlier to put on your make up, go without for a day.  It really is a pet peeve of mine.

I voted “Totally nasty” if by “work,” you mean at your cube/in your office.

While I think clipping nails goes a bit too far, it’s totally fine imo to fix your make-up, brush your teeth, or fix your hair IN THE RESTROOM.

All I do at my workspace is reapply lip gloss and put on hand lotion. Everything else – I go to the restroom to do.

I don’t mind like… a quick brush of your hair. One of my coworkers, however, clips her nails at her desk. We’re in an oncology ambulatory clinic and she’s a nurse. I think it’s unacceptable that she’s clipping her nails in this environment.

Ewww, go to the bathroom to do that please. I just think of all the times I clip my nails and one of them flies away and goes unaccounted for. But I wish there were MORE people who brushed their teeth at work (in the bathroom, of course).

It doesn’t bother me too much. But I can see certain situations being a bit gross.

I’ve clipped A fingernail at my desk only when I’ve broken it..my nails tend to split or break at work more than anywhere else and I need to even that up or fix it when it happens. I’ve also had to fix a contact lens at my desk. My desk area is a lot cleaner than the bathroom here at work. We have only public restrooms with stalls and the building is open to the public so there’s no privacy or place to set anything down. I think because of that it is pretty common here for people to use their offices for everything they can because at least it gives you some privacy and it’s clean.

I would be fine with any of that on the bathroom.

Putting on makeup at your desk seems a bit strange but that wouldn’t bother me at all.

There’s no reason to be clipping your nails at work.  Unless you have cracked a nail or something and need to trim just one so it doesn’t keep ripping.  Otherwise it can wait until you get home.

@Blonde17Jess:  People clip their fingernails on the subway here in NYC and I want to GO BALLISTIC ON THEM.

I thought I was the only one it bugged until I saw this posted everywhere in NYC one week.  It was wonderful

@Blonde17Jess:  Clipping nails at your desk is definitely inappropriate and gross.

Brushing teeth would, I hope, always be done in a bathroom.

A quick hair brushing or make-up touch-up is okay with me but ideally should be done in a bathroom.

My coworker will occasionally clip her nails at work and it just totally grosses me out. Do that at home. Makeup? Don’t care. Brushing your teeth or hair? I don’t care. Don’t floss at your desk either. That’s gross. Go to the bathroom when no one else is in there.
