Luckily I have given away my “fat clothes”. But there are times when the one size of pants feels a bit too tight and I have to mov to the next size. Usually I fine-tune the calorie cycling a bit, add a few more workouts for a week or two and I am back to norm. Much better than when I used to let myself gain significant weight and trying to live off a strict diet.

I say scale. I have a digital scale and it’s much less intimidating to keep track of a few pounds and lose them than when clothes REALLY start feeling different. I mean, we all get bloaty and full, but that passes. But when I see the scale creep up a pound or two, I can just cut back for a couple days, and it’s all good. If my clothes already are tight, I’m looking at several pounds already… SO depressing! =
Plus… clothes stretch. haha

Well it was a combination of several things.. First I decided to step on the scale after a few months and went “oh #(#$”. That’s when I realized damn I’m at the heaviest that I’ve ever been and I’ve never seen that number before.. Which is awful..
and then I noticed my clothes were fitting tighter.. I think the clothes fitting is probably the #1 indicator since I don’t like to check my weight on the scale often. and if its harder to do up my jeans when it shouldn’t then there is a problem 😉
Also, I noticed big time by my workouts. That I haven’t done certain exercises for quite a while and I did it now.. and it was a huge difference. Like I knew I was able to do certain length of run before without difficulty and now I am huffing and puffing.. or when I did my boot camp class I was tired and it was hard to do some exercises. It was a reality check of what I was able to do before vs now.. My mind thinks I can still do it, but my body says no 😛

Combination of things –
1) The number. I know what weight I look good at (either 52-54kg with toned muscle or 50kg without……I got some work to do lol! A crazy Christmas season took me above this).
2) My clothing. I refuse to wear anything above an Aus size 8. Vain, I know, but I just won’t do it.
3) My measurements. Specifically, my waist measurement. I know what measurements look good at.
4) My body fat percentage. Can you tell I’m a bit of a gym bunny?

After having my baby and having to endure a very sedentry pregnancy due to a high risk pregnancy I was in my maternity clothes 8 months after bub was born. They are really comfy!
I knew i had weight to lose (especially baby weight), but i was i complete denial of how big i had let myself become. As im still breastfeeding my 9month old I didnt think I should make too much of an effort because of milk supply bla bla.. in truth i was using it as an excuse.
It wasnt untill I saw a photo of myself taken on a rather unflattering angle by my step son that I realised how gross I looked. I cried.
That was 2 months ago now, and im down 6kg but have also put on muscle. feeling great.
I hope to lose another 10-12kg.

for me, it’s a combination of how my clothes fit and how i look in pictures (specifically my face). i have a pretty round face and even an extra 5lbs shows up in it, so it’s been a great gage.

Definitely how my clothes fit. I don’t own a scale anymore because I would obsess over it. I take my measurements every other week or so just to keep track.

@claireos: argh this!!!! I hate looking like my stomach is overflowing over my pants. It’s time to do something. Sitting down did not make me feel this self-conscious before.
definitely the way my clothes fit tells me it’s time to work out again. Then a follow up on the scale confirms it!

Usually how my clothes fit, measurements, scale. I’ll admit the scale has a profound effect on my mood, but usually I can tell by appearance whether I’ve gained or lost weight.
I’ve been horribly sick this past week, and despite overeating like mad the first two days of that week, I looked at myself in the mirror yesterday and said, “Wow, I really look like I have lost weight.” I had. And while the scale may remain the same, it is true you could be dropping muscle and putting on fat.
I carry all of my weight in my butt…it can take a while to go down in pants sizes. I usually wear 12s and 14s.

when I crossed over to “officially overweight” on the BMI scale. note that I do not think BMI is a totally accurate measure of health, but I do think it’s still a useful guideline. I can’t trust clothing to help me determine my own personal weight/size goal. I was hiding my chub with flattering clothes and totally deluding myself, wheras numbers on a scale do not lie.
I’ve finally lost 15 pounds and I’m squarely back in the “healthy weight” zone.

Usually I’ll feel my clothes get tighter, then I’ll check the scale to confirm. I can also tell by the way my thighs rub together. I then cut back on desserts/food to get back to where I was. I have a couple skirts and a pair of jeans that are good barometers of my fitness (or lack thereof). I realized a few days ago that I’m now six pounds over my target weight range so I’m trying to bring it back down. Not just for looks, but because I refuse to buy new clothes solely because I let myself get fat.

In college I had a roommate with an AMAZING body. AMAZING. When we graduated, she gave me her favorite pair of jeans that I used to borrow.
I put those on. If I can’t button them without cutting off my circulation, it’s time to hit the gym.
(ps. two kids later she STILL has an amazing body. disgusting.)

Usually in my clothes. The scale worked for me when I lost weight a few years back but I find it’s not a good indicator for me anymore.
