Does anyone have a recommendation for a Pet Insurance? Our super adorable Yorkie, Tyson, just racked up a nice ER bill for us (he’s fine, just tummy troubles) so now we’re looking into pet insurance for him. It would be nice if it covered some routine care as he’s young still (4 yrs.) and doesn’t need anything crazy.
Any one got any ideas?!

I work in an animal hospital and have heard great things about VPI and Trupanion. Good luck! 🙂

I’m a vet tech and my favorite company to recommend is Trupanion. It’s injury and illness, not routine annuals, etc. but those are the times you need coverage, plus they allow you to choose your premium and deductable. 🙂 VPI has an enormous breed restriction list, which is one reason I don’t typically recommend them.

VPI has been great for us. Our young golden hasn’t had to use it for anything major but my 6 year-old golden has cancer. It has covered a lot of the cost of his chemo appointments. It covers $1200 of actual chemo per year, but then counts the labs (which you have at each appointment) separately and the visit separately so they really pay A LOT of the cost. Without that, we would not have been able to treat him. It’s really been awesome! Hopefully your dog never ever gets that sick, but it’s nice to know that if they do, you have something to fall back on.

I’ve been looking and its so hard to choose. It’s worse than picking your own health insurance. I’ve looked at VPI and Trupanion, leaning more towards Trupanion than VPI, but I’m not quite ready to choose and Fiance hasn’t been home much to really talk about how much we want to spend and such.
