We’ve got Mycroft after Sherlock Holmes’ more eccentric brother. He lives up to it in eccentricity and intelligence, but he is the sweetest cat imaginable. He could happily be a vegetarian – a few days ago, we were having salmon with veggies. He was hanging out and begging. I offered him some salmon. He looked at me like I’d lost my mind. I offered him some broccoli, and he was in vegetarian-kitty heaven (WTH?) Peas and broccoli are his favorite foods, and he won’t TOUCH red meat (he also loves vanilla ice-cream – won’t touch any cocoa/coffee flavors – and yogurt.) He loves watching the toilet flush, he likes putting TP into his litter box, he badgers me if I don’t eat lunch or get up in the middle of the night for the bathroom.
Viola is named after the lead in Twelfth Night, my favorite Shakespeare play. Silvia or Violet also seemed appropriate, but she’d give me this self-satisfied look when I called her Viola. She’s a weird little cat. Skittish AND affectionate – she runs if she thinks more than one person/cat is looking at her, but her favorite things to do are to sit on my neck/shoulders and wrap her tail around my face… and to follow people into the bathroom to sit and purr at them. She just sits in front of our feet, looks at us and purrs. She waits by the door and sort of knocks if we don’t let her in…

When Mr. Hedgie gets me my “surprise wedding present puppy” in July I will probably name it Loki… I don’t remember where the name came from but it has been our future dog name forever!

yep he’s a sheltie, yay shelties! my hubby’s family has had them since my fil was like 6, they’re obsessed. i actually don’t think our plan to get a little girl from another breed and name her lassie would work because mil won’t let adopt a different breed. she’s already talking about us getting another sheltie… but hey, better she pressure us about fur-babies than real babies, right? 😉

I wish I had pictures of all my fur babies, but it’s okay. Our yorkie’s name is Iggy and it pretty much fits him to a T. Our porkie (yorkie/poodle) is named Kobi, although, Crash was a contender for a while because he is a major spazz. Both of these guys now live with my mom as we couldn’t take them when we first moved and once we were ready for them to come to Houston with us, my mom was already attached and there was no way she was giving them up 🙁
Our blue heeler is named Ace mainly because we couldn’t agree on anything else and we got online and that was the first name in alphabetical order that was 3 letters long. We rescued him, and his name was Smiley because he would smile allllll the time, but Fiance said there was no way he could ever stand at the dog park and yell “Smiley!!” in front of people…but it’s okay, because Ace really does fit him perfectly. Our last dog is named Ben, short for Benjamin Franklin. We adopted him from a rescue group and they had his whole litter and named them after different presidents and their wives.

I think we decided on a name! When I turned down Spock for good (yeah, SO is a big Star Trek/Star Wars fan) I suggested that we could think about Chewy, as in Chewbacca. He didn’t say anything, and so I wasn’t sure he was on board.
THEN! He referred to the currently non-existant puppy as Chewy the other day. He NEVER does this. So, I think our future corgi will be Chewbacca, or Chewy! 🙂
I actually like it too, so that’s better.

My kitty is Silas! FI came up with the name. He’s just really good at that sort of thing I guess. Silas is a black, slinky cat with yellow eyes, and I think his name fits him perfectly!

ahhh! I love your puppy! I want to cuddle!
Our cat’s name is Flixie. It’s actually an embarassing story. When Fiance was a young teenager his friend had a recording studio in his basement. So Fiance and his friends would make raps and record it. They all had their rapping names. FI’s was ConFLIX. He loved the name Flix and made his screen name Flix. Years later he is still obsessed with the name. And so when we were considering a pet Fiance said “I have one deal. Let me name our first pet Flix(ie) and you could name our first child”
How could i NOT allow that!?!?

Our cat is named Fitz, which was a compromise because I wanted to call him Fitzwilliam. I love Price and Prejudice and wanted to name our kitty after Mr. Darci. My FH thought that Fitzwilliam was stuffy for a cat. Most of the time we call him baby kitty (even though he is almost 2 years old) or Fitzy.
The recue organization we adopted him from called him River, because he was supposed to be a very calm cat. Well, when we got “River” home he was not calm at all. Crazy cat runs around the apartment for no apparent reason and loves to play fetch with toy mice and pipe cleaners.
Here is our kitty at 5 months:

Our baby is James. The cat is a girl, but she is a girl with golden eyes, so her name is James Bond.

Our baby is Urzula, it’s a Polish name that means “little she-bear”. When she plays, she stands up and plays like a little bear. Her name at the shelter was Melody, which makes sense too – the cat doesn’t shut up, lol.
We call her Zula. (Unless she’s being bad, then SO just calls her my cat, lol)
That’s her at 3 1/2 months, she’ll be a year old tomorrow!

My two cats are officially named Odysseus and Homer. Odysseus did not live up to the intellectual prowess of his name. But, he is very much an Ody. Ody is suits him to a “T”. When Homer was still a kitten, my guy got into the habit of calling him his little buddy. Pretty soon he wouldn’t respond to Homer at all, but if you said “Buddy” he came running. So he is now Buddy.
We have talked about getting a dog, and I think as soon as we get a house with a decent yard we will. We both like the name “Baxter” for a dog, although I think I will have to wait and see if they really are a “Baxter” when I meet them. As you can see, animals usually have a way of naming themselves.

My Fiance and My dog’s name is Dexter, after the tv show Dexter’s main character. Ths was extremely hilarious in the beginning, because we also called the first toy we ever got him “Ice Truck Killer”. (hopefully anyone who’s a fan of the show gets that – that was the name of the first other serial killer in the first season of the show)
I initially wanted to name him Horatio after the same named character from the Horatio Hornblower series, but the Fiance wasn’t a fan.
I’ve always had what I feel like to be unique/interesting names for pets. In my life I have had the following names for cats:
Mokie and Gobo (they were brother and sister and were adopted during the Fraggle craze)
Diabolo (he was black but when the light shone on him he had bright red undertones)
Tuxx E. Doe (a black and white cat, my mom wanted him to be distinguished with an odd spelling)

@broadwaygal Mokie and Gobo! I loved the Fraggles when I was a kid. Cute names!
DH and I have two huskies, our boy (big one) Fenway Parker, which DH named him, of course after Fenway Park. We rarely call him Fenway. He is usually Fen, Fenny, or Bubs. Our girl (little one) is Shilo Cass. Shilo is a Neil Diamond song. Cass was the husky we had growing up, so Shilo got her name as a middle name. She’s a crazy little pup. We usually call her Shi-Dizzle, Dingle, Dinglehopper, or Pooper.
