My close friend is getting married this month. I had planned to give her a nice wedding gift of cold hard cash, but I am suddently very short on money from an unexpected car repair that drained my savings (not to mention the cost of recent bridesmaid duties/events).
The bride and her fiancé have a pet beagle and a pet corgi whom they love, and they have hinted twice before that they would like me to paint portraits of their dogs.
Would it be an appropriate present to give the dog portraits for their wedding gift? It would save me a little money. Or should I just stick with a cash gift even if it’s not as much as I wanted to give?

Stick with cash. Although they may like a pet portrait, I don’t think that is an appropriate wedding gift. If you have to give less cash than you planned, they will understand, everyone is stuggling these days.

I think that’s sweet if it’s what they wanted!

If they are as obsessed with their dogs as I am, they will probably love a portrait of their pets. Its very sentimental and more thoughtful that cash. But it really depends on the personality of the couple.

I would Love Love Love that gift!

I think it would be an awesome gift.

I think it depends on the people, but as their friend you probably know if it’s something they would like. If you know it is something they would really want and that they would display in their home, then go for it!
I know my old co-worker commissioned a pet portrait for their friends’ wedding a couple years ago! It’s not for everybody, but I know she said they loved it.

Omg I would LOVE that. So much more thoughtful than a china place setting (not that I don’t want those…). Go for it.

I think that’s an awesome, unique gift. Maybe wrap up a “certificate” for you to paint the portraits in a box with some gourmet dog treats or some pretty new dog bowls that match their decor (they sell cheap, fancy ones at stores like TJMaxx, Ross, Tuesday Mornings) to make it a more “formal” gift 🙂

I would LOVE that! If it was a good one, obviously!

I love that idea! I think it’s appropriate considering they’ve hinted at it before.

Yes, so long as you cater to their requests.

I think that would be a sweet gift. It would be a little odd if unsolicited.

I agree that it would be nice if they’ve previously stated that’s something they would like.
