this is what I got.  I didn’t pick ball gown as I feel like I disappeared in the dress.  😛

What have you tried on?  Just try on tons of styles till you find something you like!

I’m 5′ 2″ and I’ve also found a dress that looks good. I’m on the thicker side but surprisingly I decided to go with a more fitted dress than what I had originally envisioned.

I went to four different stores and tried dresses on from the following designers:

  • Vera Wang for David’s Bridal
  • David’s Bridal Line
  • Watters
  • Casablanca
  • La Sposa
  • Maggie Sottero
  • Wtoo

I found that ballgowns do NOT look good on short frames unless you’re maybe a size zsero and even then it’ll be a little tough [IMO]. I have a short torso so even with 4″ heels it wasn’t going to help me at all.

Empire waist was also not a good look on me, made me look preggers so I had to rules it out.

Mermaid I didn’t try because I do not like it at all so I can’t give you much feedback there.

It basically came down to either an A-Line or Trumpet. This was one of the first dresses in that style that I tried on, Maggie Sottero Bianca:

I really liked it and I thought it looked pretty good. It was a close second but after trying this one on, I knew it was the one:

It was essentially everything I was looking for.

It was a simple chiffon dress i bought online , A-line dress , but i wore the dress without a petticoat. I think it looks better without one

I am barely 5’1″ myself and tried on dresses by Maggie Sottero, Enzoani, and Anjolique.  They have great petite cuts!

Let me know if you want to see photos, I might still have photos of me trying on dresses.

@honeybear4: hmm okay i go hunting! Here are the dresses that I tried on and we got photos of. What have you tried on so far?

1) Sottero & Midgley Adorae

2) Enzoani Constantina

3) This was a Mori Lee, can’t remember the style number:

4) Anjolique 1020

5) Maggie Sottero Madison:

6) Maggie Sottero Kendra

7) Essence of Australia (style number escapes me at the moment):

8) Anjolique 1010

Given my dress shopping experience, we decided that A line and Fit & Flare would be best for me, but that didn’t stop me from falling madly in love with Kendra.  In the end, though, I decided that Kendra was swallowing me up (with the help of everyone around me), and went with Anjolique 1020 on my wedding day:

Hope this helps, if even a little!

Hi! I’m 5’1” and I chose a lace fit and flare style dress. It is a local design, so there are no online photos available, but it’s basically a lacy tight dress that flares a bit past the hips. It was not at all the style I thought I would choose but it looks great! I think the best advice is to try all different styles, not just those that you think would work well. Sometimes you will be surprised, in a good way. Good luck with your search!
