Hi girlies! I need help because I received my wedding dress and I know it will need alterations. I’m 5 feet tall and I feel like I’m too short for the dress that I picked and I’m freaking out. I want to see petite brides to see if I can get ideas on what parts of my dress I should alter. Please help me ! Show me your dresses!

cindy25: Do you have a picture of you in the dress? I’m 5 ft tall also and when I tried on my dress, the torso fell lower on me to mid to lower thigh than it did on the model, which is what I liked because it made it more trumpet or mermaid compared to it ending at the lower hip.

hp520: yes I have several let me show you!
The lady at the store said they would cut it to my length but I’m wondering if it will look the same as the picture here except (obviously) shorter..?? Ohhh and I also want to remove the sash and have an end result of something like the picture below

Does your designer have a hollow to hem option? If it is an option, you can try getting that done since your dress will be made to your size and proportion. Some designers like Casablanca will do it for free and other designers might charge $100-150.

dojx: I originally ordered my dress the shortest length BUT…due to time constraints the consultant called me back saying that when she placed the order the designer warehouse called her back saying they would ship my dress 2/27/15 and my wedding date is 2/28/15! (Eeek) so luckily they had a dress in my size and color but in the longest length…so we went ahead and ordered it…now the seamstress will have to cut it to my length….I guess since it’s too long for me now it’s hard for me to see the true shape of the dress since I’m going for a mermaid trumpet look…..

cindy25: so your seamstress will have less than one day to do alterations???

dojx: exactly so when she told me that. we went ahead and ordered the dress that was in stock and i have already recived it
……lol i dont think i explained it clear earlier haha…..so if i would have chosed the shorter petite length they would have shipped it the day before my wedding and it would arrive 4 months later…. a little too late for the wedding. luckily they had the color i wanted and my size in stock…except the longest dress….now they have to cut it.

cindy25: Maybe wear a petticoat underneath so it will look a little more trumpet/mermaid like it does in alysee’s dress above? I think it will give it more shape, because right now unless you have it all nicely laid out, it doesn’t look very mermaidy to me.

cindy25: This doesn’t help because this is a photo of when I tried on the sample dress, so I don’t know what it will look like when the dress comes in and what I need to alter. They never gave me an option for different lengths, but I’m hoping that it will fall the same as it did when I tried on the sample because I like i said before, I think it’s falling lower on me than it’s suppose to since I’m short. I posted on here saying I was regretting my decision on the dress because it was too flowy at the bottom and was more romantic than I wanted because I wanted a more wow dress, so people suggested wearing a petticoat underneath so that it would give me the shape I was looking for.

Im 5’0 also and I went with the mori lee 5108. I actually felt like it made me look a tiny bit taller and skinnier, which is always a plus. My heels are about 3-3.5 inches so i will still be way under 5’5 on my wedding day. I feel like my dress fits me perfect and is the perfect shape for my body especially my height.
