I wasn’t sure what that term meant, so I looked it up.  I think almost everything I tried fits that definition.  I guess my dress is kind of a slim a-line, though it’s probably a little tighter in the hip area than most.

I think anything that gives you structure without just poofing out all over the place in the skirt will make you look taller rather than shorter.

My advice just go try things on.  Almost everyone has something about their body that makes finding the perfect dress hard.  Us shorties have the issue of looking like small children in a lot of clothes.  But just pay attention to how you look and feel in the styles you choose, and you’ll probably narrow it down pretty quickly.  Honestly, I had almost no concept at all of what I wanted when I went.  My sister actually made a comment about how I was in the extreme of not knowing.  But I started to narrow in on a few things pretty quickly (and soon discovered that 99.9% of all bridal gowns just did not feel like me).  I ended up with a custom design, but when I saw the detailing I knew almost exactly what silhouette I wanted with it…and basically what I wanted.

My dress is empire-waisted and slim cut…everything else felt too overwhelming (and I’m not even that small, 5’3" and 118 lbs) so I went for a simple silhouette with lots of details…Here it is, I’m toooo obsessed!

Hello petite brides!  Everyone’s dresses are beautiful!  I originally went with a slim A-line Casablanca 1831…but found the dress of my dreams with the slightly fuller and more decorated Manuel Mota for Pronovias Veneto sample dress.

I found that the huge and heavy ballgowns swallowed me up, and originally I stayed away from any ball gown!  I really liked the shape of fit and flare or trumpet gowns.

Ultimately, it came down to how I felt in the dress.  Although the shape of the Casablanca looked nice, it didn’t wow me when I had it on like the Veneto did.  And though the Veneto is fuller at the bottom, the light silk organza material isn’t too heavy and the beading really emphasizes my waist to give it shape.  So for any petite girl who might want a ballgown–try it, especially in different fabrics!

As a side note…Least favorite part of being a petite bride?  Figuring out what the back of a dress is supposed to look like when there are 87 plastic clamps covering up the back…:)
