I am also a petite bride (I’m 5’2″) and had the most difficult time shopping for the dress! But I finally found it! YAY! It’s Casablanca 1914

It is much prettier in person and I am so excited that Casablanca can make the dress a custom length for me! I’m glad I’m not the only one out there with this problem!!

P.S. I love all of the dresses I’ve seen on my fellow bees!

Thanks miss run for your inspiring post!  I am one petite bride that actually doesn’t like how the slim-A line or sheath dresses look on me and I am more drawn to the fuller skirts.  It’s been so difficult finding a dress that I like and fits me right. Grr.

YAY for petites! I thought that the drop waist fit n’ flare look would shorten me… but it actually is the MOST flattering dress/outfit I have ever out on! I cant wait to get the pics uploaded and show ya’ll!!

Gorgeous dresses, ladies!

Here I am in mine!  It’s not what I expected to buy – pick-ups and exposed tulle were never on my wish list – but it was the most figure-flattering.  There was another dress that I liked more in terms of detailing, but it widened my petite frame.

hello! i just found THE ONE and i’m 5’2″ so i figured this would be an excellent place for my first post 🙂

first off, can i just say how awesome it is to have a bunch of girls who know just how different (and dissapoinging, at times) is it to shop for wedding gowns when you’re 5’2″ and a size 4 on a fat day? there were soooo many gowns i’d fall in love with from the photo online, only to find it in person and nearly cry at how awful it looked on 🙁 i totally get that petite is not the norm and that sample sizes must be ordered to fit the “average sized” woman. i just wish that dress shops would perhaps pick a gown or two from each designer they carry that would be flattering on us little gals and go ahead and order it in a smaller size! then we could actually get a feel for both the front AND the back of the gown sans big giant home depot clips! endrant

okay so after trying on a couple of gowns i knew for sure a few things that THE dress had to have:

1. corset back

2. rooching, draping, or whatever it’s called, pleats?

3. no details along the bottom since it would likely need to be chopped off.

4. no poof. besides the fact that poof made me feel like a birthday cake, we’re getting married in vegas and i can’t imagine carrying on a dress with lots of poof, ya know?

after looking online i fell in love with melanie by maggie sottero :

just from the photo, my mom thought that the bodice was “too busy” and was worried that, as many of you have put it so well, that the dress would wear me instead of the other way around. also, since it was from the new collection, i couldn’t find a sample of it anywhere! until fate stepped in…turns out there was a maggie trunk show that weekend at a local bridal shop. i called and made an appointment even though they couldn’t confirm what dresses were to be at the trunk show. the day before my appointment the dress shop called to let me know that all of the gowns were in, that they were all in a size 6 (gasp!), and that the melanie was there in light gold (the exact color i wanted)!

so…here she is….

and here she is on me…pardon the quality…we couldn’t use a flash

and here’s my favorite part…the slit! it just SCREAMS vegas! it’s mentioned in the online description of the dress, but they don’t show it in the photo….

i loved it, and so did my mom! i haven’t decided what i want to do for a veil yet, though…if i even wear one. thoughts? ideas?

I bought this dress in the petite version in Ivory. Its an Oleg Cassini. Im only 5’3" and the dress doesn’t need much alteration. However, I did buy a different dress a couple weeks ago (Maggie Sottero McCall, in a petite size), because this original dress I bought just wasn’t doing it for me. Now I have to sell this dress. Ugh.

I just love my dress.. but it didn’t start that way.  When I first put it on I absolutly HATED it, hated it so bad that I just wanted to take it off… but my sister and gramma (who were with me, mom couldn’t come) loved it and persuaded me to try on again… and I am so glad they did!!  At 4’11" I was skeptical at how many of the dresses would look on me since they are made for much taller girls.

@bellamargot, I cannot believe how much more amazing that dress looks on you than in the picture. I never in a million years would have liked it from the official photo but it looks fantastic on you. I love how from the back you have a strap on one shoulder and your tattoo on the other. Awesome.

@Bellamargot – WOW!  You are rocking that dress!  I agree with the previous poster that the dress looks amazing on you and SO much better on you than on the model the picture!  I love it!

@bellamargot, fantastic!  You look amazing!!!  ‘Nuff said 🙂

@oneflute, what a great dress for petites!  And the detailing at the waist is so different…I can’t wait to see a photo of you in it.
