We are getting married at the height of the Australian summer. Our church is the oldest in Perth and has no aircon – only ceiling fans. Fresh flowers on the pew wreaths are not going to work on a day guaranteed to be over 100F. Mum is not keen on fake flowers and so I am looking at other alternatives. We have unlimited lengths of the bridesmaid silk to use as ribbons, and it would be helpful if anyone has pics or ideas that don’t include flowers of any kind. So far I have found this simple design, but I was hoping that a bee has incorporated ribbons on a dried vine wreath base or something similar for me to suss out. Thanks

We just did some simple tulle bows. I wasn’t even going to do that, but my grandma offered to do it last minute (like 3 days before) so we went with it.

I made tissue paper pomander balls. They were pretty time consuming, but looked fab! We also reused them on the head table.

I feel like I have ideas for everything for the wedding…except the pews. I just can’t find any ideas that I like that are worth the money and don’t take up tons of time.

How far in advance of your wedding did you make the balls? Did they store okay i.e. without getting squashed?

@plantains: I made a few about a year before the wedding and then gave my mom a little tutorial. I live overseas, so she was in charge of making 18 balls over the winter. She just hung them in the closet in the spare room. To bring them to the venue I just threw them in a garbage bag and they only needed a little fluffing when we got there.

I can’t remember if I found this link on here or not (if I did, I’m so sorry to the original poster for taking your idea!!) but I love this too and julies1949 idea reminded me of the DIY tutorial for it! I guess with this one I would just be worried about someone bumping into it and breaking it? I’m not sure how strong they are, as I haven’t made them yet.

Oh I love the candle ones…or are those lanterns?? Really cute. That’s my problem is need to figure out something cute for the pews. I don’t remember what we can/can not have though. I have to look again, but have time.
Another could be lanterns. I will post picture later of what a friend did.
Keep up the ideas.
