Congratulations! It’s exciting to start a new program.

Do you have coursework to complete before you write your comps, or do you begin comp prep pretty soon after starting? I have an 8 year old, so it’s a bit different than a preschooler, but studying for comps with her around was definitely a bit difficult at times, but you *can* make it work!

@aliavenue:  Congratulations! I hope you have a wonderful experience! I loved my graduate seminars, and especially long, challenging discussions with fellow students. It is very hard, but when it feels like it’s getting really tough, just hang in there! It’s so worth it.

Congrats! I start my PhD program in the fall – thank goodness I’ve been working at a lab for 2 years and know what to expect. I’m so excited!

I am having PhD existential crisis #3398479347923749237493287 right now so I am probably not the best person to talk to right now, but this will likely be the hardest 4 years of your life!

I will try and keep my bitterness to myself!

@aliavenue:  Having to learn to take another step when I thought I’d already exhausted all the possibilities of an idea. I’d think “Okay, so that’s what that is,” and my mentor would say, “and what’s next?”
