Does it give you heart palpitations or make you feel jittery?  Did your doctor prescribe it for you or where do you get it?

Just a quick word of warning…I was an avid Adipex user.  LOVED THEM,  Loved the feeling that I got from them and had huge success with them.  HOWEVER, the minute you stop taking them, be prepared.  If I lost 30 pounds on them (which I did the first time I took them), I’d gain back 50 pounds, even if I didn’t change back my eating habits.  If I lost 75 pounds (the third time I took them) I gained back over 100 pounds over the next 3 months.  They are a grea tool, but PLEASE be careful.

Also, this medication is know for the tolerance that you develop to them.  I started out taking 1/4 of a pill per day.  That lasted about 2 weeks.  Then I needed 1/2 a pill before I had that same “full” feeling.  In about a month I was taking a whole pill, and about 2 months down the road, that didn’t keep me satisfied either.  I ended up taking 1 pill in the morning and another 1/2 about 2:00 in the day to keep that feeling.

I feel your pain – battled my weight my entire life.  So much so that at my highest weight (254), I ended up having Gastric Bypass Surgery.  I know that this is not an answer for everyone either.  Please don’t comment back about how I took the easy way out.  I’m just trying to give you a testimony of my past experience.  I’d be more than willing to PM with any of your privately if you are interested.

BEST WISHES!

Awww. mrs.loren, I’m sorry but this does not sound healthy at all!  You won’t be able to continue to exercise if you only eat half an oatmeal package a day!  That’s less than 100 calories for a WHOLE day?  Honestly, if you continue to exercise and diet the way you were (without the aid of the pill), you definitely will lose weight and see amazing results in 2 months.  I’m just concerned because diet pills in the long run don’t work because they’re HORRIBLE for your body.  If you want a pill aid, I would suggest Alli because that at least is approved by the FDA and is approved to be safe.  I really really hope you consider switching to Alli because it sounds a lot healthier than this drug.

This has terrible lasting effects for your body! Please start weaning yourself off of them asap! Results with diet and excersize will not happen over night but you will see great results in time for your wedding. This is not worth risking your health!

You are feeling so great because this medication has similar pharmacologic properties as ampethamines – it’s a stimulant. It causes the hypothalamus to secrete higher amounts of norepinephrine. This causes your appetite to be reduced, but it also causes a significant number common of side effects including fast heart rate, palpitations, high blood pressure, arrythmias, etc.

It is also good to note that this medication is a controlled substance and therefore has a potential to be addictive.  It is only indicated for short-term therapy (several weeks).  Because this is not a medication you can take forever, you must develop healthy habits that will continue after you stop taking this medication (eat nutritional foods with the appropriate number of calories, exercise, etc.)  If these habits aren’t in place, you will likely gain the weight back when you stop the medication.

Finally, it is important to keep in mind that your weight is not actually a constant – it fluctuates some based on a lot of factors.  For example, if you are somewhat dehydrated (from not eating and drinking the appropriate amount of food and water per day), it will appear that you have lost weight (up to several pounds).  Unfortunately this isn’t actually a reduced number of fat cells – it’s just water weight that has been lost.

Good luck!

I am glad you are working with your doctor. That was not mentioned before — thus my concern!

I just wanted to say CONGRATS on losing the weight! I moved in with my Fiance about 4 months ago and i can definitely understand packing on the pounds. I was already dealing with losing that last 10 pd baby weight and then another 10 pds from enjoying a burger and a beer with my man. LOL. I think it hit me when I was up at midnight one night trying to snack on some chips and dip with him and I am like hold on I would never be doing this if it was just me. I cut it out immediately and got my behind back on the treadmill. I had a friend that used a weight loss pill prescribed by the dr I dont know if it is the same one, but she saw some big results. Once again good luck on your weight loss journey and I will definitely be checking back to see how your progress is going. Sometimes we just need the support! 🙂

You can run 5 minutes miles for 5 miles in a row?!?!  That is ridiculously impressive.

Yikes, your “previous” food is enough to send anybody into a coronary!

I hope you learn how to eat right (1200 calories worth of lean cuisines doesn’t sound balanced to me) so that when you stop the pills you can continue to do well.

Have you considered meeting with a nutritionist? That might be better in the long run, particularly when you stop the pills and the weight comes flying back. Been there, done that.
