Meh. I’m sure if I addeed up the real calories i had at the mexican restaurant the other day I’d be embarassed, too, lol,.

I started out on lean cuisines when I first started learning about dieting and portions, too. Then i became amazed at how I didn’t need that ginormous plate of food I was used to.

Soon you can learn how to make all those things yourself! I can whip up a pretty low calorie pizza myself now but it always tastes so great.

If you like salads, I go to this specialty place that sells fancy, delicious, amazing balsamic vinegar. I buy fruit flavors (pomegrante, seriously, fabulous) and douse my salad in that. It’s naturally sweet b/c of how long it’s age, has no bite b/c it’s high quality, and has no calories. Plus the benefits of a vinegar.

No, agree, things can be overwhelming. I went to a nutritionist after I plateaud. I was eating like 6 times a day, always hungry, and we trained myself a little. We balanced the KINDS of foods i was eating, yet still kept me at 1500 calories/day. Changing what/when I ate (even tho it was the same foods) melted 8 pounds off.

I totally get that when you reach a point where nothing works and you’re overweight, prescription diet pills give you a motivational boost and help you get going in the right direction. I know I’d be reaching for them if I suddenly found myself in that position!!! =]

I also struggle with my weight, always have in fact. I am currently eating 1200-1400 calories a day and exercising three days a week. I have been losing 1-2 pounds a week.

Losing weight is partially how many calories you eat, but it’s also WHAT you eat and your portion sizes. I am no diet expert, but 1200 calories a day of lean cuisines would leave me very very hundgry as well. If you are curious here is a typical day for me right now.

Breakfast: 1 portion dairy, 1 portion carbs, 1 portion fruit. This morning I am eating two whole wheat wasa crackers with light spreadable skinny cow cheese and two clementines. 

I always aim for half of my plate to be veggies, 1/4 protein, 1/4 carbs for lunch and dinner. For lunch today I will be having left over tilapia from last night, salad and a 1/2 cup of whole wheat pasta with olive oil and sundried tomatoes (a 1/2 cup is a serving of carbs) I often eat a lean cuisine at work for lunch but add a salad to that meal as well which fills me up.

I try to have two snacks a day, one in the late morning and one in the late evening. 100 calorie packs of snacks, hummus with veggies, a piece of fruit or 25ish almonds are all great options!

Dinner will similar tonight. Lean meat, steamed veggies and whole wheat rice, pasta or couscous.

Some other tips are drink lots and lots of water. I also try to eat veggies off of my plate first since they fill you up! Also, I love reading the hungrygirl website and sparkpeople.com

I also agree with ejs that it might be helpful for you to meet with a nutritionist. They are helpful and have great healthy eating ideas! Good luck with this hun. I didn’t want this post to sound preachy, but I really disagree with the use of diet pills. Learning how to eat healthier has made me feel more empowered about my body and weight.

5 miles in 25 minutes?  That’s like elite marathon runner pace.  Wow.

I also am not on board with diet pills, but I’m glad you’re working with a doctor.

I’m with @hotchild on the diet pills thing, but then I’ve ::ahem:: known people ::ahem:: with problems with… erm… amphetamines. I’ve actually taken Phentermine before, and it’s fun. Fun can be bad. Be careful! Glad you’re working with a  doctor, OP.

Hey, I think that phentermine is fine as long as you are working under a doctors care! I use the beaded fastin from a weight loss clinic in dunwoody ga. The beaded fastin is a lower MG but it works great for me with no side affects as well. I have lost 50 LBS in 3 months by using them and I also use there shake and food program. I have also been able to maintain the weight loss even when I dont take them. I am starting the diet back up because I need to lose maybe 30 more LBs! I love reading everyone’s post! Congrats on your weight loss!

I was on Phendametrazine and lost like 15 lbs, but gained it all back and then some when I went off of the medication with no diet changes.. Boo! Just thought I would share my story. I was only on it for like a month.

Just wanted to add my experience. I have in the past taken phentermine and had really nasty side effects. It gave me heart palpitations, I had dizzy spells and made me severely depressed.


I have very mild dysthymia (which is chronic low mood) and the two weeks I spent on duromine I went from very normal mood to suicidal. I have never been that depressed in my life, and I have had some very nasty experiences. Apparently it’s a fairly common side effect, so please be careful if you’re thinking of taking it!


Also, I gained all the weight barring one kilo back.

Congratulations on your weight loss, but please please please be careful. I don’t want to sound preachy or anything but I thought I’d share my experience.

1,200 calories is not sustainable. I started my diet at 1,200 calories thinking it was reasonable for my height (5’1″). To make a long story short, I ended up losing about 30 lbs. I was the skinniest I had ever been. I also lost my period, my hair, my sex drive, bone mass and a whole host of other things other than weight.

I’ve since had to gain weight back and it was the most grueling and painful experience of my life. I retained water for 2 months and my body was sore to the touch the entire time. My hormones went crazy and about half my hair fell out. (Your body does not have adequate energy for cellular turn-over on a 1,200 calorie diet. So when you start eating more… your body will start getting rid of all the hair you would have lost.)

Anyway- not trying to be a buzz kill. I just don’t want anyone to go through what I went through- especially around wedding time!

be careful with phentermine 37.5. i lost 12kg during 2 mo but also losing some hair…
