Try going to theknot.com and you can do a search for venues in your area.  I’ve found the mansion/estates to be quite pricey in the philly area as well.  And also try http://www.partyspace.com.

Good luck!

Partyspace is your best bet, although there are definitely some venues that aren’t listed there.  Many of the mansions/estates are fairly pricey, but there are lots of gorgeous ones around.  My venue is the Hunting Hill Mansion in Ridley Creek State Park and I would recommend it, but it only holds 150 so it wouldn’t be big enough for you.  Unfortunately, I don’t think that many of them will hold 200+, and if they do, it’s probably in a tent…but I hope you find the perfect place!

We’re using the Pearl S Buck estate in Bucks County. It’s also kind of pricey, BUT you bring everything in so you can use a less expensive caterer, rentals etc. The tent is huge and can accomodate your numbers. We’ll have around 200.

My venue is The Lake House Inn in Bucks Co. and we are having around 200 people as well with our ceremony onsite.  They have some great options if you are open to a Friday or Sunday wedding.  Flexibility on time of year plays a part in their pricing as well which can help decrease costs.  We are doing a Saturday night package which is on the more expensive end of what we originally thought we would want to spend, but they included so many other attributes in the package from pre-wedding, after party, rooms for bridal party/family/friends, and a next day brunch, that it balanced out the price.   They do al a carte options too if you wanted to customize the package to your needs. My friend was married at Aldie Mansion in Doylestown last July and it was beautiful!  I’m not sure of the price range or how many they can accomodate.  Best of luck!

My venus is an old mansion – Manor House at Commonwealth.  They are a pleasure to work with and their food and service is extraordinary!

My sister’s November 2007 wedding was at Glen Foerd on the Delaware River right on the border of Philly and Bensalem — beautiful mansion, and very attentive caterers (Conroy Catering).  Feel free to PM for more info!

I feel like I know unique Philly wedding venues inside and out after all the places i have looked at. Pen Ryn was super nice and pretty reasonable prices depending on the day and time of the wedding. The food at our tasting was good, but not amazing. I also agree with Bruschetta about Conroy Catering venues…they have three I believe. Good luck!!!

i think i looked at a gazillion mansions around the area. there are surprisingly a lot!! our GL is about 200 ppl so it limits the search to a few pricey ones (mostly because of the rental). i may have more info if u wanted to pm me.

Our ceremony and reception is going to be at Pen Ryn Mansion in Bensalem.  It’s right on the Delaware River.  We were able to get a major discount based on day of the week (Friday) and month (April).  So if you can do a Friday, you can get a lower price, but our consultant did tell us that September and October are about equal with May/June as far as peak time for weddings.  That could also be working against you in getting better prices.  One other thing I would recommend is to negotiate.  We definitely let them know that the package price they quoted was WAY out of our league.  They were able to bring it down to what we could afford, AND throw in a bunch of extras.

My Future Sister-In-Law had her wedding at Knowlton Mansion.  It looked really nice in the pictures.  Good luck!  Let us know what you choose.

Wow the Elkins Estate looks amazing! The venue I was looking at is 22k. I couldn’t justify the price, and now I definitely can’t

This is an extremely old board. Since my previous posts I got out of my contract at the Elkins Estate due to them filing for bankruptcy and got married at the Philadelphia Downtown Marriott. I recommend against booking the Elkins Estate for your wedding with their uncertain future and their unprofessional manner I experienced.
