I’m working on a budget of 10K for the food and beverages with 100-125 people and struggling so hard. We have even looked into winter wedding dates and it doesn’t help. I really don’t want a ballroom style wedding because we are such laidback people. I tried looking into restaurants to do a brunch style wedding on a saturday or sunday and couldn’t hit the number, breweries and everything seemed too small, or actual venues and I couldn’t justify spending 3K just to rent something out before paying 100 per person for a meal that I didn’t even really like. Our original idea was to do something super laid back, like a pigroast at a brewery or something to put into perspective how much we don’t like the ballroom style. We don’t really plan on having any of the traditional elements( no first dance, no speeches, no cake, no bridal party, non bridal shop dress etc) and still are seeming to struggle. I’ve looked at all the standards you can think of that have been posted in and out of the city.. mask and wig, colonial dames, gardens, museums, you get the picture.
The closest we got was La peg being SO close, but they didn’t offer any bar packages and with the way our friends drink, I think we would exceed the 10k in alcohol alone really fast. Everywhere else seems too small. HELP. I’m open to really ANYTHING that’s not a ballroom/hotel that you may have found.
The one place currently on our list that may work is Valley Green Inn. We also looked at Goggleworks, but don’t want to make people travel that far when most people are in the Philadelphia, NJ area.
Open to South Jersey venues too!
THANK YOU. I’m DESPERATE.

Check out concert venues like the TLA, World Cafe Live, the Fillmore, etc.
Also, initially, I was going to have my reception at Positano Coast. It’s beautiful there, loungey, airy, super laid back, but I had to change venues because I’m now expecting 100 guests and figured with 100 guests, I should go more formal. Check out Positano Coast though, if you wanna go for nontraditional and laidback.
I’ll come back if I think of anything else… Good luck!

Thanks! We have a note out to WCL, but TLA and Fillmore are 5K just to rent before you even get to food and beverages. I’m looking into restaurants and breweries a lot to negate that “rental fee” portion.
Positano seemed too small, I thought they said they could only seat 80, but I will have to go back and take a look!

I attended a Friday wedding at the Bok building last weekend… I think probably up your alley style wise! (Not just because they also had a pig roast either.) And it may possibly be in your price range. Although I’m not sure.
Also, not 100% on their pricing, and not IN Philly, but maybe the Sage Farmhouse in Media?

Oooh, I vote Valley Green Inn! We’re having ours there and they’ve been so great! It’s super reasonable, especially if you do a brunch! My sister had her wedding at the Saturday Club in downtown Wayne, but they don’t do catering. Good luck! Let us know what you pick!

@soonzak, that does look right up my alley for Bok! I assumed it would be expensive, but it’s worth a shot. Sage farmhouse is just boring to me. I have it on my maybes, but it doesn’t make me excited to get married since it is pretty typical.
@tomatotoes, when is your wedding?? You will have to let me know how it goes! We like them for both a brunch or dinner because they are so reasonable.

Bok says you can only do an even on Mondays or Tuesdays. Was the wedding you went to in a different space inside Bok that would have a different name?

(Assuming you were replying to me.) Not sure where you’re looking that you see that? Here is their wedding site – https://www.bokwed.com/
I think they are still getting off the ground with everything, although they have good marketing, so prices will probably increase over time but may be / are likely still reasonable now. I know my friends said they got a good deal for a Friday wedding over Saturday, but I don’t know how much it was.
Bok has recommended caterers but you can use whoever you want.
They had their ceremony in the auditorium and the reception in the workshop.

ah yes! I went to the normal bokbar site and it said no events. Thank you so much!

- Wedding: April 2017 - Valleybrook Country Club
It’s in NJ right across from Philly… the Valleybrook country club. That’s where I had my wedding. It was the most affordable we could get and it was perfect. beautiful golf course for photos, great food, great service. The coordinator Tracey is AMAZING!!! I 100% suggest looking into it. They have a variety of packages and include the alcohol for open bar in package pricing! https://www.valleybrookgolf.com/weddings/
