Hello Philly Bees! Were planning on doing some wedding dress shopping in Philly over presidents day weekend. Any one have any recommendations or words of caution on any places in particular? I have my Mom, Aunt, Maid of Honor, Sister, AND Cousin all flying in, so I want to be able to be as prepared as possible. I would say my budget is around 1,500- 2000. I honestly dont even want to spend that much. If any one has any personal experience they would be willing to share I would be very thankful!

@kalfolh: Are you looking in a particular area? Have you found any dresses online that you want to see in person? Sometimes it helps to pick a few designers and visit a salon that carries them.
Here are a few thoughts from my experiece:
Bridal Garden (Marlton, NJ) – it’s a little bit of a drive from Philly (30 mins or so) but I thought they had the best selection of dresses, though it all depends on what you are looking for. My budget was about the same and they didn’t push me into spending more which I liked!
Lizelle (Havertown) – They have a smaller selection but also very much in your budget. The owner Liz works with the brides and she was very helpful!
Bridals by Danielle (Center City) – I’ve been here a few times with other friends, and had a good experience. Also in your price range.
Wedding Shoppe (Wayne) – My sister got her dress here, so we shopped there for my dress too. I was very underwhelmed with the condition of the samples, and everything was really expensive. The dress I liked the most was 4200!
Country Bride (West Point) – This salon has a good size selection but a lot of the dresses seemed to follow the same ‘look’. Check out their list of designers and go if you see any you are interested in.
Good luck! Dress shopping is definitely fun.

@BrideEleven: yes, I agree with the suggestion of Bridal Garden! Great selection + no sales tax in NJ

@BrideEleven @gelaine22: Sounds like its worth the drive. I honestly have no idea what I am looking for. My hope was to go by myself and try on a few dresses around home (Central PA) so I know what I like, then when the masses decend upon me in Philly I’ll have a better idea.
Thank you guys for the suggestions! I will put them on my list for sure!

@kalfolh: That sounds like a good idea, to shop locally first! Even if you find something you love, you can always go back to it. If you have an iPhone, I recommend the Knot Dress Finder app, I used it every day for a month! It will help you narrow down dresses based on prices and designers…

@kalfolh: I went to Arielle Bridal in Ambler and I really liked them there and the dresses there max out at about $2k. I’m going to both the Wedding Shoppe in Wayne and The Wedding Pavilion in Paoli today so I’ll let you know how they are!
I called Bridal Garden to make an appointment a few weeks ago and the lady was a bit snotty and told me that their dresses start at $1200 which I wasn’t comfortable with at the time but I might go back to see how it is.
I’ve seen a suggestion on a thread here to try L&H Bridal in the northeast as well if you want to stay in the city.

I can recommend a bunch in NJ!
Bridal Garden (Marlton) – Kind of snotty, but they’ll have sample gowns in your price range and probably a few regular gowns that are around $2,000. My budget was $1,000 and I still had some to try on.
Kay Bridal (Maple Shade) – The salon itself isn’t that nice (kind of run down looking) but they have TONS of dresses and no limit as to how many you can try on. I was the type of bride who wanted to look at everything I could find and I made two trips here and spent awhile looking.
Jay West (Haddonfield) – Their prices are definitely in your budget and it’s a nice, upscale kind of place. They also offer free hollow-to-hem measurement with the price of the dress and 15% off if you purchase the day you go.
Irma’s Bridal (Cherry Hill) – This is where I bought my gown and I absolutely LOVE it! The consultants are SO knowledgable and picked out the perfect kinds of dresses for me. I’d say it’s DEFINITELY worth a trip!

Claire’s fashions inWilmington DE-dresses range from like 1-3k. Very sweet staff. No sales tax! Got my dress there!

@kalfolh: I liked The Wedding Pavilion but they didn’t have a lot of fit and flare dresses that I liked. Also they are a large dealer for Pronovias but the fit of those dresses didn’t work for me.
I went to The Wedding Shoppe next and although my budget was $2.5k max the dresses there start at around there but this week they were having a sample sale so they said they’d have sample dresses in my price range.
Believe it or not – I FOUND my dress there!! I got a $3400 Rosa Clara Two dress sample dress IN MY SIZE for $700!!!! I need only minor alterations (fix bust slightly as I can’t fill it all in and take it up as I’m only 5’3). I’m on cloud nine right now!!

@kalfolh: Ok I went to tons in the area. Not sure exactly where you plan on going but here’s my 2 cents.
Sposabella (Feasterville): Very nice people. Lots of dresses and I mean lots.
Country Bride (Bensalem): Again super nice. Decent selection but nothing in my personal taste. Definitely the cheapest place I went to
Coronet (Feasterville): Worst place. Awful customer service. Dress racks are packed to the rim very hard to see gowns in the bags.
L&H Bridal (Philly): Selection kind of on the smaller side. People aren’t the best.
Sadie’s Bridal (Andalusia): Another on the smaller side, not a huge variety.
Baranette (Willow Grove): Sweetest people ever. Smallest selection I saw.
Wedding Shoppe (Paoli): More great people. Definitely on the pricer side.
Bridal Garden (Marlton, NJ): Did not like this place at all. The women was just not listening to me and they do have inflated prices.
Bridal Suite (Hamilton, NJ): Almost purchased my gown here. My return trip was ruined by another consultant. Good amounr of dresses tho.
Jay West: (Haddonfield, NJ): Not a bad place, a lot of gowns. Saw dresses here I saw elsewhere for more
Castle Couture (Malboro, NJ): Definitely worth the drive. A lot of gowns. NY dresses at jersey prices.
