This is a really nice Art Gallery in Wallingford, PA. We looked at it – it was redone about a year or so ago. The rental fee is a bit high, but I think if you make a nominal donation to the Arts Center to become a member, they will lower the rental fee. Also, have you considered having your wedding on a day other than Saturday? With your price restrictions you might find better deals having it on a Friday or Sunday.

- Wedding: October 2010 - Ladder 15 Restaurant
6K for a wedding in a gallery space might be a little unrealistic. You want to find a place that has NO rental fee, like a restaurant. I’d recommend Joe Pesce in center city. It’s a nice restaurant and their food packages start at $29.95. They don’t have a rental fee and they’re incredibly experienced in hosting parties.
We’re currently looking at them for our own wedding and they’ve been very helpful.

Oh I forgot about this place! It’s the Philadelphia Center for Architecture. We looked at this place for our reception. It has a very urban/loft feel and the rental fee is very low compared to other places downtown (about 1k depending on what room you need). Plus, you can bring in your own caterer which can save you a ton of money.

Are you set on Center City or are you willing to branch out a little? I know there are some nice venues in the Media/Chester/Glen Mills area…

We are planning our wedding as well on a tight budget and I feel like I have scoured the city looking for good deals. Unfortunately, if you are trying to stick with dinner and dancing style reception, it’s hard to get below 9-10,000 for all of that here in the city. The fact that your guest list is pretty manageable though, I’d definitely recommend checking into restaurants, especially if you’re not as stuck on the dancing part. As well, consider restaurants for the catering (even a place like Dibrunos). The Painted Bride which someone else mentioned is $2,000 for just the space.
You may want to think of more picnic style in Fairmount as well as if you know anyone at all with a great back yard/space (outside of the city perhaps?).
Good luck and keep us posted – always nice to hear experiences of others doing it on a small budget as well!

Here are some ideas:
Mask and Wig Club
Valley Green Inn (might fit your budget to do an afternoon wedding)
The Print Center

What about Ladder 15 in Philly? I was just there a few months ago, and the place is awesome! Two floors, two fireplaces, and 35 foot ceilings!

I would also look in NJ if I were you. Prices are signifigantly lower. For example, although it’s a banquet hall, for our wedding, we get all food, alcohol, cake, dessert table, tuscano table, waitstaff, centerpieces, coordinator and the ceremony site for $88pp (incl tax and gratuity).

Oooh, I am so glad that someone mentioned the Print Center. We are having our welcome cocktail party the night before our wedding there. The site rental is $ 750 and you can bring in any caterer that you want. We are probably going to spend $7,000 for 150 guests. The main downside is that you cannot do any dancing. Good luck!

@mandajh: I know this thread is old- but I just had to let all the bees know about this awesome deal at Penn Museum. I just posted this on the boards- so please excuse me if you are reading this twice but, for only $350 you can book with their Simple and Sweet Wedding package and you can get married in their awesome Sphinx Gallery during museum business hours Monday through Friday. We had about 30 of our closest friends and family gather in the ancient room and had the wedding ceremony of our dreams with an Egyptian theme. To top it off they gave us museum memberships for a year! I still can’t believe that we paid so little for such an amazing wedding! It was so great that my parents are thinking about renewing their vows here next October!
