It’s been more than 25 years since the first time I got married. Now that I’m planning a wedding again, I’m finding that some things have changed. 😀 When I look at photographers, I am seeing that for a wedding album, they all seem to offer those photo books that have the pictures pre-printed on the pages. I feel like I want the old-school type of album, where they put actual printed pictures in there, under plastic. But I would only want a professional, really well-made one, not one I can pick up myself for $20.
Do any photographers still use those? Or are the photo books the New Improved thing?
If you have a photo book, do you like the quality? Does it seem like the pictures will last?

I think you have to DIY if you want an old style album. I used to make them for myself and made my bestie a wedding album that way. They’re nice because you can add other things like invitations or pressed flowers.
But ultimately the plastic film degrades, the pics start falling out and you forget who that random guest was because you didn’t label it for fear of damaging the photo. I’m now in the process of scanning all my photo albums (4 I think) and plan to get them made into books instead. I did our wedding album as a book. The bonus is if something happens to it, I can just order another one. I was able to type our vows in and a statement from our officiant (my FIL), I’m not going to lose one that falls out the bottom or gets bent up. And I still got to decide which pics went in, what order they belonged, etc. I think I picked something middle of the road for price range/quality but it looks beautiful. I also waited for a half off sale to purchase. I think if I do it again, I’ll get the kind with lay-flat pages. I used snapfish, btw. Why not give it a whirl and see if you like how it turns out? If you don’t, go old-style.

The books are actually very nice. I still haven’t gotten my photos printed in a big coffee table sized book, just an inexpensive one that we could get 10 copies of for family members. Maybe for our one year I’ll finally sit down and do it!
