Hi Bees! We recently cancelled our whole wedding shebang & have decided to elope in Mexico instead! Yay for about 95% less stress!!! =)
our hotel who is handling everything for us except the photograhper. So I found what I think is a fabulous photographer in the Cancun area- our ceremony will be on Isla Mujeres a 4 mile island just off the coast. It will be very small, just me & Fiance along with our required 4 witnesses (my brother & his gf, & FI’s brother & his wife) so we are only looking at a 3 hour package mostly for just the ceremony & portraits. The photographer has even offered to give us a 20-30 pic preview CD to take back to our at-home reception with us since we will be in Mexico for another 4 days after the ceremony.
I would be great if you bees could take a peek at her site & let me know you thoughts, specifically:
-are her images somewhat consistent (I thought so but my Fiance disagrees)
-do you like her style?
-do you think it’s too trendy?

@BeckyS0: I like her. Her photos have the clean, bright, natural-color style that is my personal preference.
I’d be curious to know exactly what your Fiance dislikes about her. I think she is “trendy” in the sense that she takes a lot of the detail shots that are common right now, but I don’t think that means she’s ignoring the basics of capturing the important moments.

I think her pictures are pretty fabulous. I definitely don’t think they’re too trendy. They’ll still look beautiful in 20 years.

@seAprilbride: He saw a wedding she did that got blogged on style me pretty & it was mostly candids, whereas the ones I was showing him were a mix of candid & stylized…. He didn’t seem to like the candids too much, but I figured with only 6 people there including the bride & groom there’s not even much candid shots to be had!

@KateByDesign: thank you for taking the time to peek at them! =)

@BeckyS0: That’s odd, most people now are always talking about how much they love candids! And I’m like… duh… most of wedding photography IS candids. Since you’re taking pictures of the ceremony and reception where people are focused on what’s happening and not on the photographer.
That being said, it does sound like you’re looking for more portraits… which is awesome! I love doing portraits… I bet you will have some amazing photos to bring back with you! My advice would be, just look more closely at your photog’s portrait work than the rest of it, since that’s probably what you’ll mainly be focusing on.

I like them! I like them so much that I just emailed them for prices.

Her work is nice. My big hesitation would be hiring someone who is a citizen in another country, and how that might impact the contract and legality of the transaction.

I love her work, I’ve been following her for a while. I think I actually came across her site when looking for an Isla photographer myself. I’m very familiar with Isla, and spend a lot of time there each year. I’m also a photographer, and was thinking about having engagment photos done while in town (hence how I found her site) but we couldn’t fit it in.
