I am planning to rent a bridal suite where I can get ready before the wedding and my hubby (!) and I can spend our fist night of marital bliss. 😉
I want to find a place that will be pretty in the pictures taken in the room (i.e. not looking too much like a “business hotel”) and could possibly be a good backdrop for pre-wedding photos with bridal party or first look.
I really like the Viceroy in Santa Monica, but I think a suite there would be too pricey (at least based on the rates I’ve seen), and it may take a while to get downtown. The Standard downtown may meet my criteria, but in some of the pictures online the rooms may look a bit too minimalist and not really well put together. The rooftop would make for some great shots though, and go with the “downtown” feel of the wedding.
I would also need it to be close to downtown LA which is where the ceremony/reception will be and I want to minimize travel time.

I was going to recommend The Standard…IF you like a modern feel. I haven’t seen a room though, only the rooftop.

I definitely don’t mind the modern feel, but the decently-priced rooms were a little….sparse. Even if they were a good size. Maybe they’ll let me try it out in person & I’ll see. It’s super hard though since I wont be back in LA until about 2 months before the wedding & a lot of stuff has to get taken care of before then!
Any other folks staying in hotels downtown to get ready or maybe even for wedding night???

I lived in LA so I don’t know the hotels that well but look on Trip Advisor. They have the best information about all hotels.
Also consider Pasadena…close and traffic wouldn’t be too bad on a weekend.

For downtown, the Biltmore is very cool!

ditto on the Biltmore – you could get some AMAZING shots there!!

W hotel is always a very chic and cool hotel to take pictures at.

The Biltmore is great. My fiance took me there for drinks on our first date! There are a ton of choices for good photo ops and it’s right across the street from Pershing Square which would be good for pics too.

The Mondrian is hawt….the lobby is gorgeous, Asia de Cuba is beautiful…check out their website, it’s a great hotel.

Thanks for the suggestions. Had never heard of Mondrian, but it’s BEAUTIFUL. Too bad it’s way out of our budget. 🙁
The W is also very pretty & not too, too much, so that might be a good possibility. I think they also have 25% of the rate if you pay in advance, so once I know for sure, that might be a really good option!
The Omni may be a good option–but more b/c it is so close to our venue–we could walk there, even in heels! Plus the area around there may be perfect for a 1st look. The rooms are kind of meh. The Sheraton has slightly nicer rooms, but the grounds aren’t as photogenic (based on the web photos) and further from CA plaza–although equidistant from the venue.
Do you know if places that don’t actually advertise honeymoon suites may actually HAVE them?

You can consider some non-chain budgetable “boutique” hotels in the areas. They offer suite room types with a seperate living area but the scale is not as grand as the typical 3-bay bridal suite.
O Hotel – http://www.ohotelgroup.com/ (clean and modern)
Figuroa Hotel – http://www.figueroahotel.com/ (rustic and moroccan theme in a historical building)
If you don’t mind venture outside the downtown area, there are other options for you:
Palomar Hotel, Westwood – http://www.hotelpalomar-lawestwood.com/ (electic and contemporary)
The London Hotel, West Hollywood – http://www.thelondonwesthollywood.com/ (modern hollywood glamour)
Hotel Angeleno, Brentwood – http://www.jdvhotels.com/hotels/losangeles/angeleno (LA modern)
Hope these help. Good luck!

So, right now I reserved a room at the London (all-suite) Hotel in West Hollywood & it looks beautiful. This means it would take longer to get downtown (which maybe I should rethink given the timeframe that I have for photography), but its not TOO far.
I will still keep looking at the W and Biltmore, b/c I can still cancel my London reservation if necessary.

- Wedding: September 2010 - Heritage Square Museum
I lived in The London in NYC for work and it was amazing!!!! If the LA one looks anything like that gorgeous room you’ll be in for some pretty, pretty pictures! Although the commute from downtown to WEHO isn’t always the most pleasant….
Can’t wait to hear what gem you come up with!

The Hotel Figueroa is pretty cool. It has a Morrocan theme and their food is good. It’s one of the oldest downtown.
The Biltmore is awesome! Really classy. It’s pricey, though! Their bar is fun if you’re downtown. They don’t make them like that any more!

I third Hotel Fig. It’s gorgeous and so unique. tons of opportunities for amazing pictures.
