What does your contract say?

Your first priority is to check your contract – whether they’re able to make substitutions should be detailed. If not, you probably have a legitimate ground to either insist the photographer you booked covers the wedding or you’re given a refund.

I wouldn’t just not pay – if you just don’t pay the rest of the fee, you most likely would lose the deposit and they wouldn’t have any reason to show.

Check your contract and go from there!

bella3 :  ok, given that wording send an email explaining that you will need proof of illness, emergency, or injury or else, given the contract, you will need to request a full refund of the deposit if he does not show up.

also.. It may not be too late to get wedding insurance. When I got mine it was because my MUA (who ended up being amaaaazing but that’s an aside) was coming off as super sketchy and I was worried she was gonna flake on me. I called the wedding insurance, explained my “hypothetical” issue and asked what they would do, and they reassured me they would pay for whomever I could get last minute.

3 weeks ahead is not an emergency.

Three weeks ahead is NOT an emergency! They are being VERY unprofessional! But let’s not focus on that right now. Keep pushing to get the contact info for your new photographer. Go over their head if you have to! In the mean time, gather examples online of what sort of shots and look you want for your photos. So when you do make contact with your new photographer you can give them a point of reference.
