Hmm… the only thing I can think of it that he has to outsource it to someone else and therefore isn’t able to show you because he isn’t the one who will be putting it all together

Maybe he doesn’t want to show you because he doesn’t want to accommodate changes?

Its likely that hes using one of the online sites to design it (maybe one cheaper than Blurb) that doesn’t allow him to share the images of the album before printing. So, while kindof lame, I don’t think hes lying. But he could definitely figure something out (like screen shots) if he wanted to.

As a photographer – I know this is possible.  Some labs we use don’t have a preview function.  What he should be able to do however — is describe the materials being used (is it leather, soft cover, hard cover, will the image be directly on the page or matted, what colors are being used… etc).  He should also be able to tell you exactly what images are being used.  When I design an album myself, I put my watermark on it but then just throw the pages up on Picasa or another web album so the bride and groom can see the layout.

Bottom line, if you’re paying $150 for an album, you want to at least have a frame of reference for what you are getting, especially if it’s something you could have put together yourself!

Good luck.

Do you have the printing rights to the photos?? I know of a few websites where you can make your own album for considerably less, but you need to have the printing rights to the photos.

I’m also a photographer & he’s probably ordering the album through a store or online, so he can’t physically show you the album. It would be quite a bit of effort to show you each page. Maybe he can show you a sample layout? Or see if he has any albums he has of other events, to get a feel for how your album might look.

If he’s pressuring you, then don’t do it. You can always have him do it later if you want it. I don’t believe in pushy photography, but that’s just me :).

I worked in a photo lab for two years and dealt with a lot of professional photographers and I have never heard of not being able to show you the photos before publishing the album. Even if he put his memory card in laptop there are photo viewing programs that he would be able to show you the images that he shot. If he can’t show you the images then I would tell him that you want to be satisfied with the pictures before you pay $150.00 so you would like to see prints before they are put into an album because for all you know they could be blurry photos of the wall, haha 🙂

Ok so I know this is 7 months old, but I just saw this & do NOT remember replying! Just in case someone else is ordering one, he should definately be able to tell you which images were used. That’s not too difficult.

Not sure why I said he couldn’t phyically show you the album? Obviously its not made yet :P. He should be able to at least show you something. Even if its going to his office & showing you the layout on his computer. So sorry about my 7 month old comment, I clearly wasn’t thinking! I’ve also never made an album before so I should have said that last time. Sorry!

Also, whatever happened with this? Were you able to get the album or what?

I use an online lab to make phtobook, but it is a shared experince and my clients can accrss it at anytime. Before I make the album(this is the final step) the clients recieve their images and they get to pick the images they want in an album.
