Hi Ladies!! The photographer we chose just sent us the contract and I noticed that included in the final price is 200 and something dollars worth of tax, is that normal?? I didn’t realize that we would be taxed. This is probably a silly question but I just wanted to make sure! TIA!

We were charged tax for our photographer as well. It was the standard 5% goods and service tax we have here, so it would make sense that we were charged sales tax for her service.

Yes, it is normal to charge tax. Although you can negotiate about who pays it. I negotiated to have the quoted price be INCLUSIVE of tax, but the norm is to have tax added.

Okay great! That’s what I assumed, I just wanted to make sure because I hadn’t encountered it before. Thank you!

I include tax in the cost of my packages to get nice even numbers, and no surprises after a couple decides to book. 6% of a huge photography package can be quite a lot to hit someone over the head with after they’ve already settled on a specific number.

Tax is normal in the Photography Industry don’t worry!!! When i started my company I checked specifically with an accountant on whether or not I had to charge sales tax or not.
