We hired our photographer in January of 2009 for our September 2010 wedding…pretty far in advance. We loved them and had a great time at our Engagement Session. There were a few issues when discussing our Wedding Day shooting schedule but otherwise it was a pleasant experience. The day of our wedding the person we hired as our 2nd shooter…I asked if that particular person was our 2nd shooter at our first meeting…arrived as our main photogrpaher and brought a 2nd shooter that we had never met. I didn’t want to make a scene the day of our wedding so I just went with the flow and ignored the fact that the person we hired didn’t even show up and it was never discussed with us. The day went smoothly and we are fairly happy with our pictures but I heard from a few people that our photogrpaher was rude and was pretty concerned about when she would be fed…which our coordinator thought was very unprofessional. A part of me thought it would be pointless to even address this with them since it won’t change anything. BUT I found out that the person we did hire shot another wedding the same days as ours. They posted about it on their blog and mentioned that the Groom is from a fairly famous family. Now I feel like we were ditched for a “bigger” wedding and my pride is telling me to let them know that they didn’t pull one over on us. Has anyone had a similar experience or have any advice? Thanks!

i would absolutely bring this up to them. was it in your contract which photographers would be at your wedding? and have you paid the balance in full yet? i would ask for a percentage to be knocked off the final bill.

I would ask for a discount or a refund. If your contract says that two certain photographers were suppose to be there, and you got something different, then you should absolutely ask for a discount/refund.
You hired HIM because you liked his photos. You didn’t hire two of his assistants to fill in. Don’t sit on it. Take action now. Explain to him that you saw the blog post about the other wedding and tell him about the unprofessional behavior of one of the assistants.

I’m going to check our contract tonight now that I know they shot another wedding. We have paid in full because our wedding was 2 weeks ago. Thanks for your feedback!

I agree with pb and j 100%. That is unacceptable and I’m really curious as to whether or not a change of photographer is in your contract. Barring serious illness, he should have been there.
ETA: If it’s in your contract that HE was supposed to be there and wasn’t and you don’t get an acceptable response from him (in either a refund or significantly discounted rate), review, review, REVIEW. Actually, I’d still leave a review.

Wow Im really sorry about that. The good thing is that you are happy with your pictures (I assume) so it could be worse. However, I agree that you should get some money off or a refund of some kind or even a free wedding album. It is unacceptable that the person who contracted to be there on your wedding day was not there and not just sick but shooting another wedding. Definitely say something to the photographer and also post reviews so this does not happen to other brides!

The ironic thing about the situation is that we liked the pictures the new 2nd shooter took more than the “main” photographer. Too bad he wasn’t able to take more pictures!
