We signed a contract with our photographer a few months ago after looking at many of her galleries and getting a good idea of her work. She also came recommended by a couple of other photographers who were booked/out of our price range.
Since we booked, I’ve looked at her blog occasionally, and she updates like once a month! Some of the updates aren’t even weddings – just e-sessions, etc. Since I think all her photo packages guarantee the couple a blog post with photos, it seems like she’s not doing many/any weddings right now? She does corporate work, which I knew going in, but I had the impression that she did a good number of weddings as well. Maybe this is normal during the winter season, but <1 wedding a month seems very extreme.
Am I just worrying over nothing or is there reason to be concerned? And is there anything I can do?

My photographer hasn’t done many weddings lately. She even mentions on her blog that it’s a slow season right now. She’s been posting outdoor shots/boudoir/bridal portraits.
I wouldn’t worry about it.

Hmm… as long as you like your photographer, and you researched her before you booked her, I don’t think there’s major cause for worry. Our wedding photographer is absolutely amazing, and from what I understand she is generally in very high demand… but she’s not doing much right now either in terms of shooting weddings. I think this just isn’t really wedding season. She’s done a few e-sessions recently, but I haven’t seen her shoot a wedding in a while now. However, she tends to be toally swamped over the summer, and the blog updates get a lot more frequent at that point. Hopefully it’s the same deal for your wedding photographer…

My photog also isn’t one of those who will post like 30 new pics from a wedding every weekend. She usually only posts a handful of pictures from each wedding, and she only posts about one a month. It’s a bit of a bummer, mainly because looking at photogs blogs is what gets me excited about their work. But I try not to worry about it, since I love what work of hers she does post. So I would also tell you to try not to worry about it 🙂

My photog updates his blog maybe 10 times a year! lol. It’s like Christmas when he does :_)
But yes, this is SLOOOOOOOOOOW season.

If you’re in an area with winter season, it’s definitely slow season. Most of my peers and I rarely see any weddings from December – February, one wedding a month sounds about right.

Thanks for the reassurance, bees – I’m glad to hear I probably have nothing to worry about!

I noticed that over the summer and fall, back when I booked my photographer, that she updated her blog a lot, but she doesn’t seem to be updating it lately. I also figured it’s because this is her off-season. Not only is she not photographing as many weddings right now, she’s also taking advantage of her downtime and knocking out things like album design, so her blog is probably on the backburner right now. I’m sure your photog has the same thing going on, and that we’ll both see more blog posts when wedding season picks back up 🙂

I don’t think it’s really anything to worry about. Some of them just aren’t as good about blog postings. Which is fine by me! I’ll rather her spend more time editing my pics than posting blogs. 😀
Mine is also a family woman so she has a small child to care for and a family life. So I would not expect her to spend AS much time updating blogs as the single photographers or husband and wife teams.

You’re lucky your photog promises to post you on her blog at all! Our photog (while I LOVED our photos) never updates her blog, even during busy seasons. While it’s my understanding that two months is a pretty standard wait time for photos (I know they have to do a ton of editing), we didn’t see any pictures until almost three months from the wedding (2 months, three weeks). I was always hoping that she would post a teaser pic or two (or three) just so I could have something to hold me over, but sadly, no 🙁
I got over it real quick when we finally got our beautiful photos back, though.

In France there are NO weddings between November and April. It’s normal it’s not the tradition and it’s too cold! So there are not many updates on photographers blogs.
Sometimes there’s 1 wedding in december for christmas or in january for new year but it’s very rare! lol
Whereas between may and september (spring-summer), there’s a wedding every saturday (in France we marry only on saturday)

Mine doesn’t either. It is like KLP2010 said–Christmas when they do! But I have seen enough of their wedding photos on their online gallery for their clients. It’s fun to go in there and see all the recent weddings they’ve done, although some are password protected.

Maybe you can’t see the wedding pics because the couple has requested them to be password protected, that way only they can view their pics?

Wow! I’m truly shocked to see this many people so interested in their photographer’s blogs. Personally, as a photographer myself, if I were to blog about every engagement session/wedding/portrait shoot I’d die. Even for the blogs I have been meaning to post, I’m still about 4-5 blogs behind. The reason I haven’t been blogging is because I’ve been WAY TOO BUSY coming out from under editing photos from all my recent shoots so I can get them to the clients. Reading this post I’m actually concerned I shouldnt have a blog at all if people are going to become concerned about how busy I am or am not based on a blog I am too busy to update consistently.

I think it’s no reason to freak out at all. If you like her work, then this “slow season” (if that’s even what her lack of blogs insinuates), should be taken as a good sign, if anything. I would personally prefer business to be slow for my vendors around the time of my wedding because that means they can focus more on mine rather than having to multitask and overload themselves with others.
