What a shame. Definitely contact Thumbtack and give feedback.

We hired our photo booth vendor through there and he was A+ all the way. So sorry you had a negative experience! Don’t stress!

I’m terrified that this will happen with a venue we had wanted to book! We met the owner of this restaurant and he talked about pricing and what not and we said we’d be in contact. A few days later we emailed and told him the date we were interested in and asked about a contract and… Nothing! No response. So we called and left a message for him. No response. We waited a month before giving up and looking around again and eventually picked a different place.

now I’m scared that we will get a call from him a month before the wedding asking for a final headcount and we will have to be like “uh no we aren’t doing that”.

for us though I’m not worried about the legal implications because we never signed anything or even got a price in writing, but the restaurant owner is a friend of a friend so I don’t want to burn a bridge or make it awkward at social gatherings.

Anyway, yeah some people just really don’t seem interested in actually getting business.

futuremrsdavis28 :  I am very familiar with thumbtack, we hired the shittiest photographer off of there and had to go through the thumbtack legal department to get a partial refund. Since he has no proof of a contract or contact, then you are fine. This was his mistake, and he should learn from it. I would recommend still contacting Thumbtack, so they can put a watch on this guy or at least know how shady he is. I got my wedding photographer’s account shut down, after the terrible job they did on my wedding. Don’t worry about it, don’t even respond to him, just contact Thumbtack and enjoy your wedding! 🙂

Am I the only one who thinks this is just a PERFECT way to scam kindhearted people with no thumbtack experience without ever providing anything? Of COURSE you hired someone else by now, its 4 days! So of course you won’t cancel the other vendor, but maybe you can be convinced to throw some “deposit” money to a poor starving soul who misunderstood an arrangement and really needs the money. This reeks of a calculated plan to me 😑 and no, you have zero legal obligation, no matter what that con artist says.
