@XmasBride2014:  For SF (I used to live there and was a pro photog myself), that’s pretty great!

I am looking in the NYC area and I think the pricing is pretty similar.  That seems to be around the going rate on the East coast as well.  I have found cheaper and more expensive than that but than everything else changes (hours of coverage, prints, etc).

@XmasBride2014:  Hey neighbor! I live up on the Peninsula and can confirm that that is definitely a good price for this area!! We researched/interviewed quite a bit and found many photogs had pricing that would end up being close to $10k when it was all said and done (note – we did partially work off a list of preferred vendors from our venue). Most of what we saw started at $4500 in this area, and usually did not include an album…especially being in the SV area where they’re catering to all the industry millionaires (which unfortunately we are not, haha).

We ended up going with a photographer from the Sacramento area who is around the same price that you are looking it…we’d seen her work at other weddings and she was okay with traveling down to Pleasanton for our wedding, so we were really happy! Sometimes finding someone out of the local metros helps with pricing. Anyway, best of luck to you!

@XmasBride2014:  how many photographers for that? 1? And you get all printing rights? Will all the photos you receive be edited? It’s a good price for a photographer that is high quality 🙂

@XmasBride2014:  I think thats a great price, especially if it includes the album!  We are paying a litttle less than that (I’m down in LA) but it doesn’t come with the album.  I talked to about 20 different interviews before we set up meetings with  the photographers so that we could get an idea of what “average” is…and I think 3-3.5k seems about right.

@XmasBride2014:  I’m also wondering if that’s for 1 or 2 photographers. I’m in the Bay Area as well, and I’ve researched photographers extensively recently. The photographer I’m meeting with this Friday created the following package for me for $3800:

  • Engagement session
  • 2 hour coverage of our tea ceremony the day before
  • 10 hours of wedding coverage with 2 photographers
  • Edited images on USB
  • Online gallery (for a year, I think)
  • 30 5×7 prints

I should also note that photography was pretty much top priority for my Fiance and me. It’s a hobby for him and he’s very particular, so he ruled out a bunch of photographers. We really like this one’s work.

@XmasBride2014:  When I was doing research for photographers, that seems like the average going price.

For what it’s worth our photographer is cheap, and we’re probably not going to have high quality images because of how little we’re paying.  We only booked her for 2 or 3 hours.  I’m hoping to get a couple of good shots at best.  If she surprises me, great.  Then again, I’m only having immediate family and it’s a really casual/small wedding.

I live in the Bay Area as well, and photography is one of our top priorities. I’ve researched a lot of photographers and most them are pretty expensive. The photographer we went with gave us this package ($500 deposit to reserve the date):

$2.2K Wedding Package

– 6 hours Wedding Coverage ($150 per extra hour)
– 2 photographers
– Password protected online web gallery of all HIGH RES images for downloading and sharing with friends & family
– approx. 700 to 1500 images are edited with our custom processing and uploaded to your online gallery
– 24×20 wrapped canvas of your choice
– engagement session
– 12×12 customized wedding guestbook (engagement photos will be used)
– all edited images on a USB Drive with print release.

@XmasBride2014:  That sounds about right for the bay area! We were married 2 years ago and at the time we paid about $3200 for our photographer for a similar package, and she’s since gone up in price a bit.

@XmasBride2014:  It’s an average price for a professional photographer with an album included but without seeing the photographer’s work there’s no way to say whether it’s a great price or a terrible price.

@mariematt:  Exactly. Brides here will list numbers ranging from 0 to 10,000 but if you aren’t able to see the photographer’s work they’ve hired there is absolutely no way to quantify the value.
