@TattedNYBride: I know our totally legitimate venue requires full payment one month before the wedding, so I can’t see why a photographer would be any different.

We owe our balance 3 weeks before, so yes, one month sounds right. I mean, they’re not going to show up to your wedding and spend all that time if you’ll skip out on the payment.

@TattedNYBride:  yup, normal.

Eta…sorry I’m so tired. We paid 2 weeks before our wedding and waiting for pro pics now.

I think that like 75% of our total photographer balance is due before the wedding and then the last 25% is when we pick up our photo disc.  Although we’re considering paying off our photographer in full before the wedding so it’s out of the way, she’s super reliable and we trust her.

@TattedNYBride:  Do you have a copy of the contract you signed? If you have that and they are legit then you should be fine. Sometimes its hard to know if people are legit, but if they have a nice website and good reviews, then take a deep breath. I (for sure) had my share of worries too so I cant blame you one bit 🙂

Yes!  I was a little worried about this too, but our photographer is asking for the final payment before the wedding as well.  Glad to hear I’m not the only one!

I dont have to pay the balance until I pick up all the albums and discs after the wedding.

Yes, this is completely normal.  ALL of our vendors had to be paid in full well before the day of our wedding. (The only payment we had to make on the day OF the wedding was the 20 percent tip, in cash, for our limo driver.)

Yes, every wedding photographer I know requires the balance paid in full before the wedding, usually 2-4 weeks before in most cases. There are a lot of reasons for this but one of them is that unfortunately couples can have last minute wedding/honeymoon expenses and end up running out of money after the wedding and then the photographer has performed work they haven’t been paid for.
