I think it’s pretty understandable given the situation that you’re worried about her commitment and schedule.  Did you have an actual contract with her?  I would hire the other photographer and let your friend know that you’d prefer to have her as a guest.  Or if you weren’t planning on inviting her, I guess let her know you’re concerned about her health and her obligations as a mom etc to be running around a full day doing the wedding, not to mention doing engagement pics.

I would cancel and just say I understand you’re going through a lot right now, but its just been too stressful for me to not really know whats going on with you with all the other things I have on my plate.

I would probably just go ahead and cancel and go with the other photographer. It’s tricky mixing business with friendship, but from a business perspective, you completely have the right to cancel any vendors you’re not feeling comfortable with. I think inviting her to the wedding as a guest is a great idea, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she declines (especially since it’s a Destination Wedding and she is now not getting paid to go, but has to pay for herself).

yes use the professional photographer! A friendor should still show you the same professionalism as a regular vendor and she clearly isn’t.  It doesn’t matter if she has a valid reason or not for completely losing it, just move forward with what will make you most comfortable for your wedding day.  If you keep her and she messes up your wedding, the friendship will surely be ruined then anyways.

@AmyJammieCuba:  I don’t think you’ll regret this decision, and yeah, hopefully her hurt feelings will pass.  It sounds like you’ve really gotten the ball rolling with your new photog, yay!
