Wow, I don’t get the backlash against the OP. She wants to have ideas of some nice shots to suggest to her photographer–haven’t we seen on here and other wedding websites to have ideas of shots/poses/etc.? Like a pp said, your photographer has NO IDEA every single shot you want. I love my photographer, but she isn’t going to know that I want a photo of mine and my grandmother’s hands unless I tell her–a photo inspired by one I saw on Pinterest. She actually encouraged me to make a board of inspiration photos so that we could both look at them. Am I trying to copy some shots? Yeah, maybe, but who cares?

ETA: OP, I will say that you should trust your photographer to take lots of great photos/poses/etc., but I do think it’s a good idea to have a list of “must have” shots for him to look at.

cerenatee I didn’t mean that a bride should find a photographer with unique images and then ask to copy those. What I means is that some photographers shoot in a more creative or artistic style. These photographers are more likely to come up with images that are unique to your wedding. Not all photographers recycle poses, and even if the poses are similar, the composition or angle can make the photo unique.

Also, wedding photographers do not just learn by looking at what other wedding photographers do. Many photographers take inspiration from other art forms like painting, fashion or film, but then they make it their own.

OP- I have a bunch of inspiration shots saved and wanted to send them to my photographer. things happened and I ended up having to disengage from wedding planning with 10 days to go. I never got to send my inspiration photos to my photographer. And you know what, she nailed it anyway. Moral of the story…. inspiration shots are probably fine, but they really are not necessary if you like the work of your photographer. Just my .02.

Image 1 is my photo. Image 2 is one of the images (taken by my photog) that I just loved and wanted to send to her as inspiration. My photog got the perfect shot without me having to say a thing.

@cerenatee:  Your comment to me was uncalled for.

Bottomline I think ultimately you should be hiring someone whose work inspires you and that your trust, and if you are feeing the need in the first meeting to direct what direction the photographer needs to take for your wedding I think something is off.  I have never had a prospective client bring images from other photographers to show me in a consultation.  If they did it would make me as an artist feel very much like this person wasn’t that interested in my work.  I might feel differently if this conversation was about showing the photographer something that had inspired you further down the road.  In the beginning it should be about how you’re connecting with them.

The OP said, “Any ideas with examples of picture must do’s that I can show him?”  Anyone you hire shouldn’t need examples of must dos.  That’s my opinion.

@continuumphotography:  Then I apologize. Insulting you was not my intent. I love your pictures. You do beautiful work. I was saying every photographer has poses they use and I don’t see the harm in showing them some more. We’ll agree to disagree.
