Thought it would be helpful to have a post for those brides who can’t afford to pay the 3K plus for a photographer. There are those photographers out there who are new or who only do it part time and don’t charge as much as a full time or long established photographer. Some of those photographers do great work but just don’t have the portfolio yet to justify a higher price tag. I’ve come across two in my search that I liked so far. Not sure if they raised their prices yet but based on what I saw on their sites they both seemed like great deals. Anyone else have suggestions?

The photographer that I’m using is Felicia Perry Photography and she’s done some amazing work with a fairly do-able price tag!

I am a photographer myself, and you gotta know what you want, and what you’re willing to pay. Pictures from your wedding will be looked at all of the time…..by other family members after you and to your children. My fiance’ said ” why don’t we just put kodak cameras on tables and develop them all?” I look at him like he’s crazy!” Oh, hell no! That’s not going to work.” But, We do have photographers in our family. My sister does Engagement photos and she just did my cousin’s Senior pictures. ( I have been a working photographer for Lifetouch for approx. 5 years). LOVE MY JOB, and I just don’t see MYSELF spending 2,000 on a photographer. There are probably some people starting out and don’t think they’re that great, and they’re probably AWESOME just starting out. Offer them money, they’ll probably do it. They’ll be nervous as hell, but wouldn’t you too.
IT’s hard decision, as the whole wedding planning is for someone that has never done it before. But this is one cost I would NEVER give up. As an experienced photographer myself I would proably not pay more than 1,000 for wedding pictures…that’s the whole thing getting ready to leaving reception.
That’s Just me. Photographs have different impact on different people.

I have to tell you, if you hire amatuer – you will get amatuer work!!!! THIS IS YOUR WEDDING! The most important day of your life. Wedding photos are an investment well worth the money to hire PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS that way you know you will get the best representation. I’m sure not going to hire any college people to take my photos. I want the BEST!!! If you’re going to spend good money on a cake, a dress, food, flowers, why would you skimp on photos!??????
I just got engaged but I have several friends who used this photographer and their price is very reasonable…so I’m going to hire them too.. If I were you I’d check them out …. http://www.MistiMorningstar.com

And she’s good at working with budgets! and you can ask about signing a model release with I believe might take off $100 from you package, but you’d have to double check wtih her. Very resonable!

Re: Keith Nelson Photography
This man failed to properly shoot our wedding, he made no preparations for the wedding day and wasted considerable time dragging us around trying to find shooting locations and ended up delaying the reception meal.He refused to take shots that we wanted or in the style we wanted.
He promised he would give us the original image files and that all the images would be photoshopped. He only worked for about 4 out of the 5 hours he was present choosing to socialize, disappear and make the most of the free bar instead of taking pictures. He provided less than 200 images – including many that had simply been turned black and white. There was little or no editing done to any of the pictures and the few he did bother to edit were very badly photoshopped – my wife did a far better job with a free downloaded program.
He provided the images firstly on a non working CD then on 2 further CDs, all with the title scrawled on the CD by hand.
Despite numerous emails he refused to resolve the issue preferring to result to threats and intimidation.
We ended up taking him to court to reclaim some of our money and even outside the courtroom he still behaved in a threatening manner trying to intimate us whilst calling rude names. Despite the fact he also chose to lie under oath in court we won our case.
We had to pay in CASH presumably to prevent any charge back had we used a credit card.
Avoid this rude, arrogant, unhelpful ‘photographer’ unless you want poor quality images that you’ll have to edit yourself before showing anyone.
Please feel free to contact me for examples of his work highlighting the poor standard of photography, editing and amateur mistakes.
