why not just ask for a photographer in your area and fly him out? Work out the logistics to see which would be cheaper.

If it’s similar in pricing, flying someone local is probably better since he will still be local to you after the wedding.

i did a lot of research on photographers in Jamaica and was going to book one. the only reason i did not was because one American photographer i wanted is coincidentally already going to be in Jamaica for another wedding the same week as mine! so i don’t have to cover her travel expenses which i could not afford.

before i confirmed her though, i found the photographers in Jamaica basically ranged from $1000 – $2000 and the thing that is so great about them is that they will stay the entire day and give you full copyrights for ALL the photos they take (and do the editing before they give you the photos).

i knew someone who did this last January and she highly recommender her photographer, his name is Alain Hottatt and his website is http://www.jamaicashoots.com

i personally didn’t like his sample photos too much so if i hadn’t got the American photographer, i was 100% going to go with this guy:

Chris Clare http://www.zulusproweddings.com/

he seemed really great and was nice and super helpful over email. plus i thought his website pictures were wonderful. i felt bad turning him down in the end. and i think i would have been really happy with him. he was charging me $1500.

basically you can just google: Jamaica wedding photography and find them all.

i also came across this site that listed everyone i contacted:

Merrick Cousley was also someone I was considering, but was too much out of my budget:

good luck!!

FLying someone in may not be cheaper, but my god, you’ll get more than 45 pictures. That’s RIDICULOUS.

The resorts are now putting real pressure on local photographers that aren’t associated with them directly. They offer their own service which is much more expensive than hiring an unaffiliated person and when you do hire an outsider they force you as the guest to pay for at least one nights accommodation which I think is totally unfair. If by chance you have a photog that you like or that you’re familiar with from the US I would consider using that service. If not, there is also the option of having your wedding off site and hiring a local to cover it. There are many awesome photogs here to choose from (I’m not sure if listing a few would be considered self promotion since I would list my site as well). But, if you want to get an idea of what the local photogs have to offer I’d be glad to send you a list of sites.

Hope your wedding is amazing and Congrats!
