A good friend of mine is a photojournalist who is now making the transition to wedding photography.  She is an amazing photographer and has worked freelance for newspapers in Toronto and Mississauga. She is really creative and she does some amazing portraits. I don’t know what she charges, but it’s worth sending her an e-mail if you like her work.

Check out her wedding website:

I am doing my wedding in France because my fiancé is from France, and I’m paying $1500 euros, but he only provides prints, no digital images (they are extra and very $$$$).  I currently live in the US, and photographers cost even more over here, like $2,000 – $3,000.  In the end it will all depend on what you want.  If you want all of the digital images, they typically charge a lot.  We are also not doing any video, and our photographer doesn’t stay for the dinner (they leave after the first dance, which we will do right before the dinner), so they charge less for staying less time.  We opted to do a portrait session after the wedding on a different day so that on our big day we can spend most of the time having fun with our guests (rather than disappearing for a couple of hours for photos) – but this also adds to the cost.

I guess you gotta shop around.  But definitely check out Jill – she’s a great person and I think she’s very talented.

Good luck!

Photographers in the GTA range anywhere from $1500 to $3500+  When I was looking, the average for a 6hr. shoot was around the $2200 mark.

My MoH used http://www.boyfriendgirlfriend.com and her formal pictures are stunning {though her reception pictures were not as great, and they missed quite a few guests in those shots}.

We’re using http://www.jasonhashimoto.com – we did our engagement shoot with him last week, and he’s very easy to work with – and his price is great {he’s just starting out} – but is pretty busy this summer, so may not be available.

Here are some others who were recommended to me while I was looking, via a friend who is a photographer and either knows them or has worked with them:
