Maybe you already tried this but on my phone, a huwawei, tap the screen over the item you want to be in focus and it should adjust so your subject is clear 🙂

I make sure that my stone is facing the sun so it catches the light. However, I have a spinel so it might be different for diamonds.

@Waytooexcited:  I agree with this – it works on an iPhone too. You can tap the object you want to be in focus and hold to ‘lock’ onto the item.

If tapping on the image isn’t working, then look for the macro setting; the icon is usually a flower.
